WASHINGTON The Los Alamos nuclear weapons laboratory in New Mexico is missing 69 computers, including at least a dozen that were stolen last year, a lab spokesman said.
No classified information has been lost, spokesman Kevin Roark said.
The watchdog group Project on Government Oversight on Wednesday released a memo dated Feb. 3 from the Energy Department's National Nuclear Security Administration that said 67 computers were missing, including 13 that were lost or stolen in past 12 months.

Ahhhhhhh. this seems to happen at Los Alamos once or twice a year. Apparently they don’t have any security procedures in place. But, it’s not like they have any important data over there, so what could be the harm? I mean, this article says no classified information was lost, and I’m sure that absolutely true. [/s]

How frickin hard can it be to register each of these computers’ hard MAP addresses after they come out of their original packing cartons when newly bought, so that next time they are given an IP address by a DNS [and IT folks, to whom this is addressed, please forgive me if I misspeak] their location could be instantly flagged?

Just a bunch of Excel spreadsheets containing lists names, phone numbers and addresses of our scientists and what they were working on. Nothing important..

Is this the Sandia group again? How hard is it to account for PC’s in a top-secret funded facility?

Having worked in buildings with large networks I would expect to find most of them in the back of a closet.

Well, I hope the drives are encrypted. At least make them work to get the info out of them.
