States’ Rights Revived? (Prelude to Secession?)
A-Letter (investmnet blog and newsletter) ^ | 2-7-2009 | MATTHEW COLLINS

Sovereign When Necessary States’ Rights Revived? Dear A-Letter Reader,

This week, various state legislatures introduced bills intended to revive one of the most important gifts left to us by our forefathers…state sovereignty.

No, you won’t hear about this on CNBC or Fox News. In fact, we just got word of it a few hours ago. All the way from Hawaii to New Hampshire…Georgia and California, nine states have so far introduced bills that would reaffirm state sovereignty as laid out in the ninth and tenth amendments to the constitution.

Now – like I said – we just heard about this news ourselves. And we haven’t had enough time to really decide what it all means…but there is some strong wording in a few of these bills, to say the very least…

This from Arizona’s bill, “…if the President or any other federal entity attempts to institute martial law or its equivalent without an official declaration in one or more of the states without the consent of that state … individual members of the military return to their respective states and report to the Governor until a new President is elected…” [emphasis added]

We’ll stay on top of this one and update you next week.

As for the rest of the week in sovereignty, take a look at Bob’s special comment from Thursday, “The Audacity of Nope,” where Bob gives you the kind of expert retrospective on Obama’s first two weeks in office that you could only get from a former Congressman.

On Monday, Eric explained why it’s not a great idea to invest in Russia, and on Friday he told us about stock market values and why valuations alone can’t end a market trend. On Wednesday, Currency Analyst Sean Hyman shared the three tricks he wishes he’d known when he first started trading currencies.

And don’t forget about Eric’s special “crisis investing” reports next week. As we proceed from “just” bailing out banks and the financial system to full-blown fiscal stimulus, Eric tells you how you can protect your wealth with some of the safest investments out there.

Until then, keep your wits about you, enjoy the weekend, and

De Omnibus Dubitandum

I get emails from financial newsletters from Forbes and other places including Agora. This one is from the Soverign Society. The link does not go to the story but to a former congressman newsletter writer talking about O.

This web site also has more and a citizen in Massachusetts is pushing it in MA. http://www.therightsideoflife.com/

I wonder how we can get this moving in as many states as possible. Dr. Edward Vieira has been talking about this and the state militias. Note state militias are not local gun clubs but are in the Constitution.

I’m in favor of inverse secession. There are some states we need to throw out.

Well, at least we have the advantage. We only have forty one States left to go whereas little Ø has forty eight…

Don't know if you've seen this, but it looks like it may already be starting.

Well AZ language is really strong which is great. I hope the fine folks of AZ vote out Juan McCain the RINO.

I read somewhere if the bills get passed the gov of each state has to sign it but if they refuse it still is effect?? The good news is this is moving fast and it needs to because in only 2 weeks the country is being destroyed rapidly and terrorist murderers are getting pardons.

Thanks. I was not trying to dupe it but the word appears to be getting out.

Because Obama is such an admirer of Lincoln, isn’t it likely any attempt to secede will be met by the same response from Obama that the Southern secessionists received from Lincoln, resulting in another (probably shorter) civil war?

Maybe and maybe not. Abe Lincoln was not pardoning Islamic terrorists who killed U.S. Navy sailors.

I am very sympathetic to the idea of reasserting the tenth amendment. But when they say that nine states have introduced such bills, I’m afraid they mean that nine equivalents of Ron Paul have introducted such bills, knowing well that they don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of going anywhere.

I would love to see this happen. But at the moment, I’m afraid it’s a non-story. Things could change if our country crashes and burns, which Obama seems determined to bring about. But not as things stand now.

What, politicians withdraw from the Union just as a trillion dollars worth of pork is about to descend on them?

I Propose:
The Western United States:

Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, N Dakota, S Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado??

Our motto is: Remember 9/11

Our flag can be a silouette of the twin towers

We open up mining, drilling, and kick the environazis out so that farmers and ranchers can operate like it is 1955.
Coal will be shipped east at our prices, and when we decide. Dams will be built for retention of water for OUR farmers and ranchers and citizens.

Ted Turner will be required to sell his property to a rancher who knows how to manage land.
Ted will be banished from ever setting foot inside these states, along with the Harry Reid’s of the world.
We set up treaties with Canada and Alaska.

How’s that??

I am avoiding Ariz, New Mexico because they have a severe border problem, and I won’t admit them to our group until they build and secure the border fence, or whatever it takes.

We will not use the Republican standard...we will be the CONSERVATIVE party.
Guns will not only be allowed, they will be “shall carry” in our Constitution. We will give gun and ammo manufacturers free land- there is alot of “Federal Land” that is now not productive—for their facilities.

Give me more ideas, Freepers....
Meanwhile—what are the 9 states that are already taking some action?

If that happened, I’d move out of Washington State in a heartbeat. Only one problem with that, WHERE would I sail?

On the Great Salt Lake???

We need to build a number of dams to hold OUR water for OUR ranchers, farmers, and citizens. Maybe one of those man-made “lakes” could be big enough for your sailing???

Give me more ideas, please.

This isn’t likely to go anywhere, but I wonder what one state is the most likely to do such a thing.

Obviously it goes both ways. I could see if the GOP gradually got more conservative and you see something like 12 years of Palin and/or Jindal as President, a state like Vermont might actually push it to a degree. California is just too cumbersome IMO.

Cali might be the most likely state to divide though (not that it IS likely, just MOST likely). Florida being the other. Eventually I see the possibility of a big split forming between the Panhandle of Florida over to Jacksonvile and South Florida. Pensacola to Panama City might as well be Alabama as it is. Tallahasse and Jacksonville might as well be in Georgia.

On the flip side, if Obama serves 8 years and we elect an even more socialist President, what states might actually be candidates to move in that direction? I would say South Carolina, Alabama and maybe an Oklahoma would be the likely candidates. Again, not that it is likely, just who is MOST likely in a relative sense. Texas has an independent streak, but like Cali it seems way too big to get very far.
