WASHINGTON -- Senator John McCain says there's too much unnecessary spending and too few tax cuts in the Obama administration's economic proposals to stimulate the economy.
The Arizona Republican and former presidential candidate also complains the plan has no "endgame."
Interviewed Monday on CBS's "The Early Show," McCain said that after the economy recovers the U.S. should "be on a path to a balanced budget."
Instead, he says, the Democrats' plan would burden future generations of Americans with the biggest budget deficit in history.
He says it's time for both parties to sit down and negotiate. He says the Democrats need to consider his party's concerns, especially on cutting taxes.

Get ready for the RINO refrain, “We’ve made it a better bill.”
Double, mega, ultra weak.
Beat them in the primaries.
That can be difficult in some areas. I was so mad at Bush when he supported Spector over Toomey 2004, a bad sign of things to come. BTW: Do you consider GWB to be a RINO?
It's a pejorative for dweebs who repeatedly undermine the most conservative viable candidates in general elections, then upon seeing the country move further and further to the left have neither the brains nor the balls to honestly connect the two events.
No, I don't consider GWB to be a RINO.
I'd have preferred it if the White House (Rove) would've stayed out of GOP races until after the primaries.
Where exactly did you get your qualifications to judge anybody? YOu have been a lord McCain dweebe, and you think you have what it takes to decided who is pure and who is NOT.
Not a RINO, Do you consider GWB a conservative? Is he a model for conservatives?
That statement, coming from a member of the Judgementalism Star Chamber is rife with irony and humor.
Thanks for a good laugh.
Do you consider yourself to be a purist?
Purist?? No, because I have no idea what you mean by the term. I am not even sure I am ‘conservative’ anymore after all the so called ‘conservatives’ defending Bush and McCain. I mean, Hannity claims to represent conservatives.
Ugh, at this point in time, that is a death warrant. We all know this bill is not going to work. They are setting themselves up for the fall. I just cannot sign on to slitting my throat 1 year from now.
I see these old RINO guys and I want to puke, I don’t see them as much different than the dems. They just really believe that we all want something done, even if it sucks. And they wonder why they have lost the last two elections. Hey if you are doing something wrong, just keep doing it until you get a damn brain.
Oh well, sh*t is gonna hit the fan. Be ready.
‘plaintiff’ vs. ‘plaintive’ (e.g., as in the meaning of the word as it was used).
You are right. Fox was calling that traitor Judd Gregg a conservative republican.
Geez, what a joke.
Well, I hope you figure out what you are.
I already know.
RE “I already know.”
Is this supposed to mean something?
Cedric, this not YOUR Free Republic. This is Jim Robinson's Free Republic and we're all here to read news and intelligently debate the political news of the day. It's time for the mud-slinging and threats of list creation to stop. There are people on FR that disagree with you about John McCain, and frankly there is nothing you can do to change their mind.
See I not only voted for McCain in the general, but worked on the campaign. I won't get into the specifics of what I did, but you're free to look through my previous posts if you want to learn more. If McCain lost, the commitment I made to myself was that I would work hard to limit his influence over the next two years and work for a candidate in the GOP primaries to defeat him for 2010.
See McCain is a bigger problem to Republicans than most care to admit or even understand. John McCain has been selected by the MSM to be the voice of the party because he is one of the most liberal and willing to work with their party - liberal Democrats. He is a public relations tool and all involved in the charade knows it. See McCain is used by the Democrat party to show "bipartisan support" for legislation. He's also used to gather his team of "RINOs" and be involved in big government initiatives that keep Washington regulars in power.
Considering the average American voter doesn't know the difference between McCain and traditional conservative values, they just take the charade on face value and accept that the Republican party is on-board with whatever is being pimped at the time. This is especially dangerous to the GOP, because it muddies the water between ideological differences not just between the two parties, but also between conservatives and liberals.
I have a long background in marketing and PR. McCain is one of the Democrat party's greatest marketing tools. But don't only think he does this because he wants the MSM to desperately love him (although his ego does), he is paid handsomely for it. Spend some time on Newsmeat or Open Secrets. Dig around and you'll find some of his biggest individual and PAC financial supporters over the years are the same of newsworthy Democrats.
I realize from this thread that you have a problem with those who wouldn't vote for McCain in the general. But now that the general is over and McCain lost, the time has come to look for alternatives to him in the Senate. And don't think this objective is an aside from disagreeing with the Obama administration and the Democrat-controlled House and Senate. I can "walk and chew gum at the same time," and it is expected the RNC can as well.
But, I haven't gotten there yet.
