If the issue werent so serious for our nation, the irony would be delicious. Eric Holder, President Obamas choice for Attorney General is justly criticized for many things. But the fact that he recommended that President Clinton pardon and release from prison unrepentant FALN terrorists while at nearly the same time advocating that law-abiding gun owners be imprisoned if their registration papers are not in order reveals a hard core left wing agenda.
Eric Holders agenda is to make exercise of Second Amendment rights a minefield where an innocent misstep will land you in the penitentiary.
When I testified against Holders nomination before the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 16, Senator Patrick Leahy replied that Holder promised not to change Vermonts gun-friendly laws. Thats no consolation -- the Feds have no power to change State laws, but they can make all the new Federal felonies they wish. Thats no consolation -- the Feds have no power to change State laws, but they can make all the new Federal felonies they wish.
Also testifying with me was Joe Connor, whose father was murdered in a FALN bomb attack. He could not understand how illegal alien nanny problems could derail other nominations, but the recommendation to pardon FALN members could not.
Holder is a long-time adherent of the chicanery that the right of the people to keep and bear arms means no such thing, and instead only protects a states power to conscript a person into a militia. He said as much in a friend-of-the-court brief filed just last year supporting a total handgun ban in District of Columbia v. Heller. The Supreme Court fortunately disagreed, holding that the Second Amendment protects the individual right to have a handgun for self defense.
Asked at his nomination hearing if he would support the Heller decision if the Court reconsidered it, he replied irrelevantly that it would depend on the facts and that precedent is a factor he would consider. The evasive response makes clear that he would seek to blot out the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights.
He wants to close the gun show loophole, the lefts code phrase for making any private transfer of a firearm without government permission a felony, and for registering all gun owners with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). He advocated that just after hijackers armed with box cutters struck on 9/11. Speaking of gun shows, anyone who so much as plans one should go to prison unless they are registered with the ATF, Holder proposes.
Holder wants to ban cop killer bullets, even though armor piercing bullets have been restricted since the 1980s, leaving only hunting ammunition to ban. He wants to ban gun possession by persons in the 18-21 age group, even though they may serve in the military and vote. Waiting periods, one-gun-a-month, the list goes on. Just how many new federal felonies does he want?
The District of Columbia requires every firearm to be registered and imposes one year imprisonment for violation. When he was U.S. Attorney for the District, Holder tried to make possession of an unregistered firearm a felony punishable by five years imprisonment. At a time when D.C. was the murder capital of the U.S., his focus was on incarcerating those who hurt no one.
Conservatives cannot be heard in this environment - we have lost the Republic.
About the author:
Independent Institute Research Fellow Stephen P. Halbrook, author of ‘The Founders’ Second Amendment: Origins of the Right to Bear Arms,’ filed an amici curiae brief on behalf of a majority of the members of Congress in the U.S. Supreme Court case of D.C. v. Heller.
I am currently reading his book which is a good one. I knew his parents when they were living, he is from a strong conservative family.
I also hope I didn’t make mistakes on posting this one, I thought this important and it hasn’t been up on the website very long.
I thought he was already confirmed?
I surely do hope we can be heard on this website. I am not giving up, not ever.
Maybe he is, but the article I saw on the sidebar said he was approved by the Judiciary Committee. If that is true, he isn’t approved yet. Not the last step involved.
In the long run, Bambi will find a way to control or silence even FR.
So let’s all just crawl in a hole and surrender. Is that what you want?
That is what the ONE is doing with our enemies, his foreign policy is just surrender.
I understand what you are saying, but I don’t understand why you are saying it. A person can still stand up for what is right regardless of the odds, and regardless of whether you win. This is not the finish.
No - I want people to wake up. Things are serious....everything has changed. Wake up to the fact that the GOP is not our hope. It’s time for people to get their house in order - literally and figuratively.
I didn’t say the GOP was my hope, although there are certain individuals I do respect.
Why I will vote ‘no’ on Holder

What part about “...shall not be infringed” doesn’t anyone understand?
Thank you for that link.
Good question, and good comment. I’ve been wondering where all the defenders of freedom are tonight.
My pleasure.
Planning for 2010, and more intensively, planning for 2012. At this point, the Rats get whatever they want. It should be such naked hell that the really stupid people who were looking for absolution of their white guilt get the crap scared out of them.
I'm certain that Eric Holder is such an incredible asshat that he will move to turn Bush Administration officials over to the Hague. Ordinary Americans will see clearly how very, very wrong they were.
The Obama administration is a nightmare from which I cannot awaken. Just look at the Drudge Report every day. One would have to be deliberately blind not to see our enemies ready to pounce - and he wants to facilitate the pouncing.
Thanks to FR, I don’t think I was stupid this past election. But, I still am scared silly by everything the ONE is doing. The kindergarten class is running the country. How many stupid mistakes are going to pile up? I am terrified of what he is capable of doing.
Here was this nice, "clean and articulate" black man saying soothing things, offering forgiveness to silly white people who somehow thought they were genetically responsible for slavery and Jim Crow. As his agenda unfolds, their eyes will open. Guaranteed.
