Obama’s Bill Hands ACORN $5.2 Billion Bailout
NewsMax ^ | 1/27/09 | David A. Patten

A rising chorus of GOP leaders are protesting that the blockbuster Democratic stimulus package would provide up to a whopping $5.2 billion for ACORN, the left-leaning nonprofit group under federal investigation for massive voter fraud.

Most of the money is secreted away under an item in the now $836 billion package titled “Neighborhood Stabilization Programs.”

Ordinarily, neighborhood stabilization funds are distributed to local governments. But revised language in the stimulus bill would make the funds available directly to non-profit entities such as ACORN, the low-income housing organization whose pro-Democrat voter-registration activities have been blasted by Republicans. ACORN is cited by some for tipping the scales in the Democrats' favor in November.

According to Fox news, Sen. David Vitter, R-La., could appear to be a “payoff” for community groups’ partisan political activities in the last election cycle.

“It is of great concern to me,” Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., tells Newsmax. “I think our government has stayed strong because we’ve had a two-party system, we have had robust debate, people have felt that it was one man-one vote. They are privileged and grateful that they have that ability to cast that vote. And when something is done to belittle or diminish that, it is of great concern to me.”

Regarding ACORN, Blackburn added, “Additional funds going to these organizations that have tried to skew that system, it causes me great concern and I believe that it causes many of my colleagues great concern.”

The three-term congressman stopped short of suggesting the “neighborhood stabilization” money is a power grab by Democrats seeking

There should be a great deal of fear and alarm over this stimulus bill. No matter though. The cowardly RINOs in the Senate will vote for it.

Let ACORN rot, they are a national threat and should be shut down.

If we fund them there will never be another legal election in America.

$5 billion to ACORN means no more fair elections in this country. Given the blatant fraud we saw in 2008, just imagine what 2010 and 2012 will bring with a well-funded ACORN.

We now officially live in an illegitimate banana republic.

Wasn’t this country formed in the first place over some beef about taxation without representation? How many of us are feeling well-represented today?

And Republicans did exactly WHAT about all of these commie “nonprofits” while they held the majority and had the opportunity?

They held baseball steroid hearings.

Now they want to whine about the integrity of our elections?

The GOP was simply negligent.

Glenn Beck is right: disenfranchisement is bubbling up as a very strong undercurrent right now. The gooberment ought to be very careful how it steps.

Can we sue the Government for this kind of funding?

Maybe that funding will help ACORN become as well equipped and trained as the army so they can be the ones to confiscate our guns when they outright ban comes down.

These B@$t@rds are like the Borge in Star Trek, but we won't be assimulated.

My fear is they will grow ACORN with all the cyber volunteers texting and emailing each other during the election cycle...

I can see local wards and volunteers etc coming to your door asking for "community service"........

5 billion can buy a bunch of guns, unfortunately it doesn't train the user to use them. The democrat party has become the defacto third world junta in the US.

I would say that there will be a reckoning in this country if this bill travesty becomes Law edict

“could appear to be a “payoff” for community groups”.

This IS a payoff!! Call it what it is!!

This stimulus is a joke and should not be allowed!!

The hard working citizens of this country will bail us out of this financial crisis - NOT the goverment!!

For the same reason our borders are wide open. Government ain't enforcing the laws that protect the freedoms and rights in this country. So now, we have Democrats robbing the bank and the GOP idling the getaway car.

Just one question -WHY IN GODS NAME ARE THE ACORN PEOPLE NOT IN JAIL?

The mainstream media doesn't publicize anything about Acorn's corruption. My sister-in-law never heard of it. She watches NBC news, reads the local paper and think she's well-informed. If it's a big secret to most people, there will be no out-cry for investigations and arrests...
