An inaugural ball honoring U.S. military veterans ended in a kerfluffle as several veterans walked out when a musical act's attempt at humor backfired.
During the Heroes Red, White & Blue Inaugural Ball honoring the nation's veterans, a vocalist with George Clinton and the P. Funk All-Stars held up a white towel with large block letters saying "[Expletive] GEORGE," perturbing many audience members who walked out after the display, interpreting it as a jab at the outgoing commander-in-chief, George W. Bush.
A spokeswoman for the ball's organizers said the sign was inappropriate.
"Obviously we and the Heroes Ball coordinators were unaware that the sign existed and did not support their actions, especially considering our non-partisan mission and treasured military audience," said ball spokeswoman Carrie Foster.
But a spokesman for the band, the final act to perform, said the sign was intended to poke fun at their leader, who shares the same first name as Bush.
"George's guys always have always had a thing about the four-letter-word," said band spokesman Sandy Friedman. "It was directed to George Clinton. There was no last name, it was to George, the leader of the band."
Friedman said people had been walking out on various acts throughout the evening and that there was no noticeable mass exodus after the sign was unveiled. However, one fellow band member seemed to notice people walking out and quickly ripped the sign down.

No kidding. The Vets in that hall could have torn the band member to pieces, but they are much too honorable for that.
“It was directed to George Clinton. There was no last name, it was to George, the leader of the band.”
I ain’t buying it.
It’s been interesting throughout today to see stories cropping up about all the problems that arose throughout the inaugural festivities. Apparently it wasn’t all sweetness and light as portrayed in the MSM. (tho it wasn’t half the nightmare some of us feared would happen, either)
I don’t believe it either. So, now are they not only crass, and classless, they are liars.
I also doubt too many veterans want to hear funk music.
It's looking like the MSM is reporting sweetness and light exclusively until further notice.
Nothing I hear of like this is even surprising at all now. Just wait until people start walking out of the military altogether. I know two men, and know of one, who are leaving. All of them served in Iraq, one volunteered for it, and Kosovo. Barry may not care but it still won’t look good.
They should have said “F*ck you too” and then walk out.
Old vets like me don’t want to hear funk but a lot of the younger ones probably would.
Change You Can Make Believe In
Yes, that showed a complete lack of class alright. Here these men have served under Bush only to have him disrespected in this manner.
I don’t care if they were talking about their leader, they should have realized that nobody in the audience would know it. They were careless, rude, crass, and devoid of any class.
I respect the men of the armed services who picked up and walked out. Good for them.
Who chose these jerks to perform? And one they are chosen, doesn’t anyone give them some guidelines about what it acceptable or not? And aren’t they told that if they break the rules of the contract they won’t get paid?
There’s no excuse for the language or the mixup. It just shouldn’t have happened at all.
In other important news. No arrests were made on the mall yesterday. A crowd estimated as high as two million predominately African Americans had a wonderful peaceful time. The drive by media proved today just how racist they are in reporting this fact. It seems they expected to report a large number of problems due to the racial mix of the crowd. Racist Racist Racist.

Yeah no kidding. Funny how the left is quick with their excuses despite this band and numerous others having a long track record of making insulting comments towards President Bush.
Liberals are tone-deaf and not that bright. They lack sensitivity to in the least understand who their audience is.
Old vets like me dont want to hear funk but a lot of the younger ones probably would.
It pains me to say it, but George Clinton is in his late 60s. Old funk for old vets, I guess.
Looks like Mexico City

I am glad the reporter at least included this.
