Many here on Free Republic would agree with him.

Back during “Forest Gump” mania I used to say “I HATED the movie Forest Gump”; the reaction people had was priceless, like I said “I HATE Mom and Apple Pie”.

That got such a visceral reaction that I changed my statement to “I HATE Tom Hanks!”; That one was pure gold as far as eliciting a reaction. It seems that one is “Un-American” to many if you express a dislike for Tom Hanks, and I was told so.

I don't actually dislike Tom Hanks at all. He seems a nice guy aside from being a liberal doofus; although it is hard for people to separate actors from the roles they play.

Tom Hanks plays a nice guy in movies usually means that people assume he is a nice guy in real life.

Now maybe less people will look at me askance when I express a dislike for Tom Hanks.

That makes me sad!

How about the black supports of prop 8, Mr. Hanks? They un-American as well? Or are you afraid of being called a racist if you stopped being a hypocrite?

Oh, how I wish somebody would ask him that in an interview!

But...nobody will.

I was about to say that myself.

Besides, why is this guy caterwauling about Mormon support for Prop 8 when he dumped his money into Al Franken’s campaign in a state where he doesn’t even live?

It is American to donate to any cause or candidate you believe in. Period.

Tom Hanks is very undeserving of his royalty status.

“The truth is this takes place in Utah, the truth is these people are some bizarre offshoot of the Mormon Church, and the truth is a lot of Mormons gave a lot of money to the church to make Prop-8 happen,” he told Tarts. “There are a lot of people who feel that is un-American, and I am one of them.

BS. A lot of Mormons volunteered their own time and money. They didn't send money to the church to make Prop 8 happen. Hanks is full of crap. Hanks will get no further patronage of his work from me.

Hanks is a fine actor. I won’t make the common mistake of saying, in response to an actor’s outrageous political comments, that (therefore) “he sucks.”

But he is obviously a bigot. It’s bad enough to disparage, as “un-American,” the 52% of Californians who voted to call same-sex partnerships “civil unions” while reserving the label “marriage” for opposite sex relationships. Worse, as others have said, he seems (to me) to take pains to single out the Mormon supporters-of-Prop-8 ONLY as “un-American.” He appears to be too cowardly to attack Blacks and Latinos and Catholics, as a group, heavens no; just the Mormons. Hmm.

Exactly - it really frosts my cookies ;) when people cannot see and state the facts - minorities esp. blacks and hispanics are very socially conservative!! And religious for that matter! The minority vote is what passed Prop. 8 - I just hope that one day some hollyweirdos enter the realm of reality and fact!

Sad.

I think Mr. Hanks is a terrific actor, but he should shut up and act.

Because he's unAmerican :-)

Tom Hanks's School of Logic

1. Tom Hanks is not un-American.

2. Hollywood liberals are not un-American.

3. Mormons are un-American for donating as a group to a cause they believe in.

Have fun with all that.

So, American citizens legally engaging in the democratic process is somehow “un-American” if it conflicts with Tom Hanks’ pet leftist/liberal/deviate agenda?

Hollyweird “celebrities” need to STFU and just make their movies (which, by the way, have been reported to be on the decline).
