SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco 49ers defended their pat-down searches of fans before an apparently divided California Supreme Court today, saying ticket-buyers know they'll be searched when they walk into Candlestick Park and give up their right to argue that their privacy is being invaded.

Yeah you don’t know what Raiders fans are carrying LOL!
The only thing that really bugs me about it is that it slows down getting into the stadium. Before pat-downs I could get from my tailgate to my seat in about 15 minutes. Now it takes 30-45 easy.
And the patdowns themselves are nearly worthless. Raiders fans seem to keep showing up!
Is it just me? Or do the jokes write themselves?

It’s just you.
Staples Center has metal detectors at all entrances. You would think they would have this at all football games when you compare NFL crowds to the docile crowds at NBA and NHL games.
It’s a wise precaution. Alex Smith might be trying to sneak in.
Or out!
i get patted down before all the giant games i go to. with the technique security uses, anyone coud smuggle in a large WMD.
We have pat downs at the Packer games, but I believe it is to relieve fans of the beer and booze they are trying to sneak into the game.
two words: flask.
Only in San Fransicko!
This wouldn’t happen in Da ‘Burgh.

Uh...the whole purpose of the pat down is to pat down for flasks. The Green Bay cops are pretty good, they go for the traditional vestpockets, flat of your back just at the belt line and underside of the sleeves. Quick, effective and it pisses me off greatly. However, at the Lions/Packers game (yes, it was glorious to watch history being made), I managed to bring in a pint of Brandy and a pint of Schnapps.
well, that’s not the whole purpose here in nyc. perhaps out there it is. i guess a flask of johnny black is the most you have to worry about. you’re lucky.
Uh, I suspect the Green Bay coppers are looking for other things, but in Packerland (thank God) the most common thing confiscated is booze not guns.
