President-elect Barack Obama has offered the job of surgeon general to Sanjay Gupta, the neurosurgeon and correspondent for CNN and CBS, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation.
Gupta has told administration officials that he wants the job, and the final vetting process is under way. He has asked for a few days to figure out the financial and logistical details of moving his family from Atlanta to Washington but is expected to accept the offer.

Obama's JFK fantasy continues...now he's hiring reporters from CNN to be major policy makers. This is similar to what Kennedy did with his advisory team too, i.e. hiring writer Ted Sorenson, who ghosted the Pulitzer Prize winning Profiles in Courage for him and then making him "senior counsel" in the White House. This job isn't a cabinet position, surgeon general, but it is high-profile. What's next? Katie Couric as OMB director? Charlie Gibson as SecNav?

Katie Couric as OMB director? Charlie Gibson as SecNa Ellen degeneris as HHS chair. Ed bagely as Energy chair. Jack Bauer as homeland security chief. It doesn't matter if these are filled -- the new administration looks like it will have 100% turnover by Jan 21 and the new fuhrer nor his handlers can tell the difference between a TV character and a real person.

Gupta’s a neurosurgeon and operates regularly. He’s even operated on kids in Iraq. Sounds like he’s weak in Public Health though. He’ll mandate vegan meals and daily meditation.

Thanks,
For obvious reasons, I am suspicious of anyone whom you see over a few hours a week on CNN as being nothing more than a journalist who happened to take a couple of medical classes at a community college.

... Obama has offered the job of surgeon general to Sanjay Gupta, ...
And another giant steps onto the stage. How soon before he is fitted for a uniform, like Koop was.

Why not Ed Begley as Surgeon General? He was a doctor on St. Elsewhere after all.
To: freedumb2003
Jack Bauer as homeland security chief. If only....

He’d have to try extremely hard to be a worse nanny stater than Koop (Republican appointment) or Kessler (Republican FDA appointment).

So was Howie Mandel! And hes way funnier. He was, anyway. But he is probably smarter than the new fuhrer (definitely smarter than mrs. fuhrer), his handlers, the vice fuhrer and most of the new cabinet chairs.
