Yeah. Congress would never want to appropriate several hundred BILLIONs of dollars without thoroughly evaluating the bill first.

Oh, wait... They actually did that in October didn't they?

The first two words of this article are becoming the slogan for the incoming administration.

‘Hope and Change’ have been replaced with ‘Lowering Expectations’.

Congratulations, America, you elected a fraud.

Lowering expectations for quick passage of an economic stimulus bill, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid rejected setting "some false deadline" (Like they did with the 'get out of Iraq' bidness) for delivering legislation to President-elect Barack Obama (he ain't prez yet) in favor of a more deliberate approach that allows Congress to get the package right (with a ton of earmarks) "the first time."

Typical that the Democrats are talking about a 10 cent gasoline tax at the same time they are talking about tax cuts and a stimulus package for the taxpayers.

Do they have any idea at all as to what makes the economy really work?

But they did manage to get their $4700 raise in there, didn’t they? Bums!

“Under these provisions, most workers would get a $500 payroll tax credit, as Obama advocated on the campaign trail,..”

The grey panthers and the various welfare leeches wont like that one. They want checks in the mail, not credits on taxes they will never pay.

$ 500 dollar welfare checks to be given to people who do not pay income taxes. This is not a tax cut, it is welfare. Tax cut = reduction in percentage of taxes that someone pays.

They don’t have the votes to pass it right now. Probably all Republicans opposed and quite a few Democrats who are staying on the sidelines until the pot is sweetened enough for them.

“Obama officials are advocating that Congress direct about $300 billion of the stimulus package, or about 40 percent, toward tax breaks.”

Wow. they are a whole 40% of the way there towards a semi-reasonable policy. Never mind that these are the worst kinds of tax breaks, instead of tax rate reductions they are giveaways - at least they are giving it to people to spend, instead of politicians.

Keep the tax cuts and jettison the hundreds of billions in spending, and they might actually have something that wont be a tragic waste of money.
