(Former Guantanamo detainee) Hicks to pen book
Sunday Herald Sun (Melbourne) ^ | 4th January 2009 | Marnie O'Neill

DAVID Hicks is to cash in on his notoriety with a book deal that could pay a six-figure advance.

Terry Hicks, father of the former Guantanamo Bay inmate, said a book was in the pipeline.

David Hicks's Adelaide-based lawyer, David McLeod, said he had been inundated with expressions of interest.

Literary agents said publishers would pay six figures because public interest in Hicks had not waned since he was released a year ago.

Hicks cannot profit from any book sales, but his father can.

Who is David Hicks? Some “peacenik” caught on the battlefield with the enemy and gravely misunderstood? *Rolleyes*

(I’m just guessing; I really don’t know this story.)

Since he changed his name to Muhammed Dawood, shouldn’t they call him that? They don’t still refer to Muhammed Ali as Cassius Clay do they? Either way, I’m sure that a lot of people will buy it to read his account of Gitmo.

Oooooooh, now we are back to the nice friendly sounding name of "David Hicks"?

Muhammed Dawood, who admitted to "providing material support for terrorism", is an Australian who undertook terrorist training in al Qaeda-linked camps and served with the ruling Taliban regime in Afghanistan in 2001.

Muhammed Dawood, on the left, posing with a Rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) on his first day of training with the KLA in Albania

Letters to his family detailed his training:

"I learnt about weapons such as ballistic missiles, surface to surface and shoulder fired missiles, anti aircraft and anti-tank rockets, rapid fire heavy and light machine guns, pistols, AK47s, mines and explosives. After three months everybody leaves capable and war-ready being able to use all of these weapons capably and responsibly. I am now very well trained for jihad in weapons some serious like anti-aircraft missiles.

He admitted to meeting Osama bin Laden and its alleged he translated Al Quida materials into English and he conducted surveillance of the U.S. and British embassies in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Gotta love wiki...

His story is dodgey. Frankly he seems to be nothing but a punk with delusions of grandeur who globe trotted to play mercenary and *lawfully* fulfill fantasies of lawfully killing people, then turned into a cry baby when he got caught.

He fought in the Kosovo War, fought with Pakistanis against Indians (dots not feathers) near Kashmir, then went to Afghanistan where he trained with and fought for al-Qaeda.

When he got sent to Gitmo, he suddenly renounced Islam and became a poster boy for Human Rights Watch and the rest of the bleeding hearts who think that terrorists are just misunderstood freedom fighters.

Wait’ll I see that book in Barnes & Noble; I might just accidentally spill something on every copy I can lay my hands on.
Thank heavens there’s a Starbucks there...
