Greece's armed forces national defence general staff (GEEThA) on Friday announced that the Russian aircraft carrier "Adm. Kuznetsov", currently sailing in the southeastern Mediterranean, has requested use of areas within the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) in order to conduct aeronautical exercises.
Greece's Civil Aviation Authority (YPA) approved the request, with the Russian air/sea exercises scheduled to take place southeast of the major Dodecanese island of Rhodes on Jan. 3, 4, 8 and 10, and south of the large island of Crete on Jan. 11, a GEEThA announcement stated.
Turkey won’t be pleased.
Russia and Greece have Orthodoxy and a traditional position on Turkey in common, with the Cyprus issue still outstanding, as well as their common Serbian allies (also Orthodox).

Good move.
I hope the Greeks are waking up from the long term secular EU and NATO stupor and showing some support for their Orthodox Christian allies.
This move is also a way to show that they are not just a puppet of the US.
Greek ping!

Muslims killing Muslims sounds good to me. Especially used helidopters that Turks will spend years figuring out.
Turkish message to Greek pilots over Farmakonisi raises concern in Athens - January 5, 2009 - Tensions in the Aegean are on the rise again after Turkey suggested that Greek helicopters were violating the neighboring countryʼs air space while flying over the small Dodecanese island of Farmakonisi. The move has prompted President Karolos Papoulias to call Turkey a fractious neighbor and to make Agathonisi, another small Dodecanese island, one of his stops for the Epiphany celebrations on January 6. The alarm was raised in Greece when, on New Yearʼs Eve, Turkish air defense control communicated with Greek helicopters via the wireless and asked them to leave the area because they were violating Turkeyʼs national air space.Greece protests Turkish airspace violations - Jan 7, 2009 - Greece's defence ministry said Turkish fighter jets violated Greek airspace, harassing a military aircraft searching for a boat loaded with illegal immigrants in the Aegean Sea. "These Turkish acts are outrageous," Bakoyanni said in a statement.
Keep making excuses for Russian dhimmitude. I'm sure Russian bolstering of the Turkish air force won't adversely affect Greece in any way.
By the way, Those Greek-Russian naval exercises seem to be going well. The Russians have only lost one sailor so far. The Greek-Russian naval exercises have started haven't they? They were supposed to have started by now but I haven't heard anything about them. Are the Russian ships too busy making port call in Turkey to make it over to Greece?
