Russia warships called at Turkish naval base Akzas Karagac for an unofficial visit - 05/01/2009 - MOSCOW, January 5 (Itar-Tass) -- A squadron of warships of the Northern Fleet of Russia consisting of the heavy aircraft carrier Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union N.G.Kuznetsov and the big antisubmarine ship Admiral Levchenko called at the Turkish naval base Akzas Karagac on Monday for an unofficial visit. The visit will last until January 8. Then the squadron will continue fulfilling its tasks in the area of the Mediterranean Sea, assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Captain Igor Dygalo said.

On the first day of the visit, protocol meetings between the command of the squadron of the warships of the Northern Fleet and the command of the Turkish naval base will be held. During the following days, military delegations of the Turkish Navy are to visit the Russian warships. Cultural and sport programs are envisaged. The crews of Admiral Kuznetsov and Admiral Levchenko will see the sights of the city of Marmaris.

Upon the conclusion of the unofficial visit of the Russian warships to Akzas Karagac, a joint exercise with ships of the Turkish Navy will be held. A coordination meeting of the field headquarters of the squadron of the Russian warships and representatives of the Turkish Navy will discuss the details of the exercise.
