oleman found himself in Iraq three times after he enlisted in 2002. After what he called increasingly violent deployments, Coleman was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder when he left the Marines. The disorder develops in some war veterans and survivors of other traumatic experiences and can trigger violent episodes and flashbacks. Coleman is one of three war veterans featured tonight in a new episode of MTV's documentary series "True Life."

Good on MTV to talk about this. Probably 90% of those who have been to Iraq/Afghanistan are under the age of 23. That's a prime demographic for MTV.

—my cynical suspicion is that more minds are ruined by MTV than PTSD-—

You are not being cynical if you are absolutely correct.

MTV is a political tool of liberals, now.

Has been since the late 80s.

I only watch VH1 Classic.

[they actually just play music videos! whatta far out concept!]

MTV is *only* interested in the exploitation angle.

This will be, as usual, an ill-informed anti-war screed disguised as “edutainment”.

You hit the nail on the head.

“MTV is a political tool of liberals, now.”

.....indeed it is....that’s why they go for the “broken warrior” story line in this piece....I hope this young vet gets help and bounces back from PTSD....but OTOH how about a story on the thousands of men and women who had immature lives, went into the service, had to grow up, got out, went to college on the GI bill and got good jobs....this is far more the norm....any vet will tell you that.

[I hate my MTV!]

correct, the MSM portrayed the Viet Nam era vets as drugged up crazy violent street bums over and over..until many saw us that way..here we go again...American Left must destroy those that show them as weak and effete.

It is not part of the brainwashing...er..I mean regularly scheduled programming.

Most of our biker friends are Viet vets.

I prefer their company over 99.9% of the rest of the population.

MTVs demographic is about 10 to 16 years old. People who are 17 to 23 actually have lives. If the coverage is supportive, I’m all for it. If it’s exploitive I won’t like it a bit.

One can hardly imagine MTV actually being concerned over our troops health. One can easily imagine MTV wanting to convince our children not to enlist in our armed services.

I haven't heard of Save a Vet before, but if they treat/help real vets, with real battle connected problems, then I'm all for them.
On the other hand, many moons ago I helped start up the local chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America. Long story short - in no time, the majority of vets getting help weren't VN vets and I left in less than a year.
I won't say those guys weren't screwed up, but their problems had nothing to do with VN which was why we started the organization.
