India has proof ISI trained Mumbai attackers: Sources

India has proof that the Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI was behind the deadly Mumbai attacks. Sources have told NDTV that ISI trained the attackers.

The names of trainers and the places where meticulous training took place are also known to the government, the sources said.

The United States is believed to have even more evidence some of which it has shared with India, they said.

The US has told Pakistan that they have proof of terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba's role and sought the arrest of its chief Hafeez Sayeed.

Sources added it is hard to imagine that Pakistan army was not aware of Mumbai attack plan. They say Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari is not fully in control and the ISI and army are calling the shots

The deadly attacks on India's financial capital left 178, including several foreigners, dead.

Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, who was in Pakistan on Wednesday, is believed to have told his Pakistani interlocutors that Washington had enough evidence to show a Pakistani hand in the attack, the sources said. (With PTI input)

Pak's ISI linked to Mumbai blasts: Afghan envoy

New York, Dec 4 (PTI) Adding to the suspicions of Pakistan's ISI being linked to the Mumbai terror attacks, Afghanistan said intelligence gathered after the carnage has linked the agency to the unprecedented strike.

Calls were placed from a satellite phone left behind by the attackers to "people who were known ISI members or had very strong ties with the ISI," Afghanistan's Ambassador to the US T Jawad told the Wall Street Journal.

Jawad also said there is evidence linking Yusuf Muzammil, the man identified by India as the attacks' chief organiser, to the ISI, but did not provide details.

India has the ability to use more “aggressive” interrogation techniques than the leftist constrained US. After a week in Indian police custody the Mumbai terrorists are praying for a trip to Gitmo.

The ISI has been tied to the Taliban and al-qaida for years. This comes as no surprise.

The idiot liberals (pardon my redundancy) were so hot to get rid of Musharif. The result? Chaos.

it’s hard to guess which will be the Obamessiahs 1st crisis: Israel/Iran, or India/Pakistan.

“Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, who was in Pakistan on Wednesday, is believed to have told his Pakistani interlocutors that Washington had enough evidence to show a Pakistani hand in the attack, the sources said.”

So why was he there? To tell them that we’ve going to invade them, too?

Another reason why this is not good - “Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari is not fully in control and the ISI and army are calling the shots” - so who’s in control of the nukes?

I don’t know of anyone who could resolve these. The mess of Islam has festered so long that the problem grew too large across too many areas. Take out Iraq? Leave Iran to do its thing. Take out the Taliban? That means that Pakistani elements can wreak havoc on the world. Tell Israel to stand down in the face or Iranian bluster? See Iran build a bomb.

No this is very good. Get it out in the open so a solution can be found short of throwing nukes. If it was all just speculation then India would still need to do something for internal political reasons, but the Pakistanis wouldn't have any incentive to give any ground. By getting this out in the open we can put pressure on Pakistan's allies in China, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere to stay out of this.

Isolated, surrounded, outgunned and out of money we may be able to convince the Pakistani military (the civilian government is useless) to clamp down on the ISI. It isn't much of a chance but it is better than a shooting war between a bunch of unstable nations with nuclear weapons.

Guess I'll post this once more before the nuclear panic mongers terrify everyone again.

Two nuclear powers engaging in a major blow-for-blow is not good news.

However, it is not dangerous for anyone in the US or Europe - unless they happen to be visiting the area.

I've seen a lot of fear-mongering on this site and others about the direness of a full-scale nuclear war between India and Pakistan, and it is not at all like the hyperbole would lead you to believe.

One poster here said that 25% of the world's population would die if they went to nuclear war! Unbelievable. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If they both set off ALL of their nukes it wouldn't affect you at all unless you were visiting the immediate area. The left has everyone convinced that a few nukes would make the whole world uninhabitable and irradiated. That is utter nonsense.

Don't forget, some 1021 nukes were set off just outside of Las Vegas, at least 100 of which were above ground. People have lived there the entire time and they used to watch the mushroom clouds from Vegas hotels. The entire nuclear arsenals of BOTH India and Pakistan combined contains a grand total of between 75 & 150 small nukes.

The Nevada Test Site is a United States Department of Energy reservation located in Nye County, Nevada, about 65 miles (105 km) northwest of the City of Las Vegas, near 37°07′N 116°03′W / 37.117, -116.05.

During the 1950s, the mushroom clouds from these tests could be seen for almost 100 miles in either direction, including the city of Las Vegas, where the tests became tourist attractions. Americans headed for Las Vegas to witness the distant mushroom clouds that could be seen from the downtown hotels.

Another myth is that cities in or near the conflict zone would be uninhabitable for hundreds of years. I strongly disagree.

Hiroshima, Japan today.
Hiroshima was nuked just over 60 years ago.
Nowadays, nearly 3 million people live in Hiroshima Prefecture, and over 1 million in the city itself.

The entire Indian and Pakistani nuclear arsenals combined are less than what was set off just 65 miles outside of Vegas above ground.

India:
Though India has not made any official statements about the size of it nuclear arsenal, the NRDC estimates that India has a stockpile of approximately 30-35 nuclear warheads and claims that India is producing additional nuclear materials. Joseph Cirincione at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (3) estimates that India has produced enough weapons-grade plutonium for 50-90 nuclear weapons and a smaller but unknown quantity of weapons-grade uranium. Weapons-grade plutonium production takes place at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center, which is home to the Cirus reactor acquired from Canada, to the indigenous Dhruva reactor, and to a plutonium separation facility.

Pakistan:
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) estimates that Pakistan has built 24-48 HEU-based nuclear warheads, and Carnegie reports that they have produced 585-800 kg of HEU, enough for 30-55 weapons. Pakistan's nuclear warheads are based on an implosion design that uses a solid core of highly enriched uranium and requires an estimated 15-20 kg of material per warhead. According to Carnegie, Pakistan has also produced a small but unknown quantity of weapons grade plutonium, which is sufficient for an estimated 3-5 nuclear weapons.
Worth posting this info again here as things in the region seem to be heating up.

Of course, I hope it does not come to this, but with Pakistan stirring up trouble, and India about to go on a war footing - it does not look good.

Pakistan does not have a chance against Indian conventional forces - their only hope to stop a total rout is to go nuclear - and of course, then the gloves would really be off.
