Thought ya'll might get a kick out of this, as the reality of Democrat Party economic policy hits home for this kook.
"So, I became another casualty of this devastating economic climate. I lost my job today. It was not totally unexpected. About a month ago, there was a big meeting at the company. We were told that at least 35 people would be laid off. Nobodys job was safe. The announcement of layoffs would come, they said, in the middle of November. November came and passed without a word.
Then today, around noon, I got a call to come into the Human Resources Department. The poor girl started her little corporate rant. As she did, I smiled. She said to me, you dont seem surprised. I reminded her that we were told about a month ago that no ones job was safe, and since that date, I had come into the office everyday thinking it would be my last, and so in that respect, I was not surprised.
My situation, I am sure, is not unlike so many in this country today. My own story though, is that I have a chronically ill husband, who lost his job in February at the same firm. He, at the time, I think was let go because of his illness, although these heinous people tried to make it seem otherwise.
As if that was not enough for them, when we filed for unemployment, they tried to block us every step of the way, by contesting it. We won in the end. The managers at this firm are some of the coldest people I have ever encountered in my entire life of working.
They are disrespectful and to some degree devoid of humanity. My husband nearly died when he worked there, because of the unreasonable schedule they assigned him. He was doing dialysis from home, and had to do it three times a day, at least once on his lunch break. But they would give him assignments that crossed into the time, which caused him to miss his dialysis sometimes. To make matters worse, they put him on the weekend schedule, which is a grueling schedule for a reporter with kidney failure. This was all an attempt to get rid of him. But because he was the chief breadwinner, he stuck it out, dragged himself in there, at times feet and hands so swollen it was unbearable to watch.
Two weeks before he was fired, he nearly died. Looking back, it was a blessing in disguise, that he was let go.
That is why today, as I sat in the office facing my impending layoff, it was easy for me to accept it and walk away without the kind of emotion one feels when there is a loss. The job environment is a cesspool. It eats at the core of decent people, many of whom only want to come do a good job and go home.
People walked around terrified of the prospects of losing their jobs. Having told us the layoffs were coming in November, no one bothered to address the subject further, until today. In difficult times as such, where there are sweeping cuts across the country, people can half-heartedly understand business decisions. But when managers are evil, vile and horrid in the way they treat people, it changes the complexion of things.
---Some of these comments show a complete loss of touch with reality, as well:
"capitalism dehumanizes you have to remember that capitalism has only a few assumptions, that workers are expendable, that people with money want to make more money, and that people will act in their own interest.
the combination of the three gives you raw, unadulterated capitalism like we had in the early 20th century, where workers are paid in severed limbs and trifling pittances. (Reccomended ELEVEN TIMES, Why doesn't that surprise me?)
This diary is currently on the KOS Reccomended list, but I won't post a link to it.
It's all those EVIL Corporate Manager's fault! (TRANSLATION-Bush's Fault)
Maybe she was just a bad employee.
It’s not that their product sucks and nobody wants it.
The Author’s KOS handle is “AFRICA”....
Out of fear of reprisal by Obama’s PC Thought Police, I won’t go any further with that line of thought.
...like most of the assp*ckers on Kos, I believe less than half of what she says...
A liberal media outlet run by capitalists?! Well, the audacity! Did she ever think that the reason she (and her husband and other coworkers) lost gainful employment is because they make a product no one wants because it drips with the same condescending liberal crap that drips from her screed?!?!
LMBO!!!
The question is, did management go through the parking lot and ascertain which cars had Obama stickers on them before making their decisions on who to cut?
Do people really do dialysis 3x a day? I’m not saying they don’t, but my cousin, when he got kidney failure from diabetes, did it 2-3x a week. That is my only standard of comparison.
This woman sounds as though unable to help herself.
HELLO!!
You too can find another job - millions do it all the time. I know it is difficult in a time of recession but be creative; if you’re a wordsmith working as a reporter, well now it the time to write those stories you’ve always daydreamed about. Sell them and make some money. But most of all - keep looking for a job.
If you’re really smart and see it coming (this person had plenty of warning!) go find another job before being laidoff.
But don’t act helpless. That’s just plain dumb!
When my late sister had dialysis, it took several hours per session, and 3-5 times a week before she rec’d her kidney transplant. I honestly don’t think someone would be able to do ANYTHING if they were having dialysis 3x a DAY! They would be too wiped out...
Methinks this is not a true article, but some made up thing trying to garner sympathy.
People on continuous peritoneal dialysis generally change their dialysis fluid at home or work 3-4 times per day. They don’t have to go to a dialysis center to do it, but they do need at least a few minutes to wash up, in order to ensure sterility. That’s probably the kind of dialysis the person in question was undergoing.
Just to be complete:
People on automated peritoneal dialysis have their dialysis fluid changed by a machine every night, generally during the time they are asleep.
People on hemodialysis spend approx. 4 hours in a hemodialysis clinic 3 times per week. That’s probably the kind of dialysis your cousin had.
I know wikipedia is not the most trusted source but they discuss at-home dialysis.
They mention 3 types of dialysis schedules:
* Conventional HHD - done three times a week for four hours. It is like in-centre hemodialysis (IHD), but done at home. * Short daily home hemodialysis (SDHHD) - done five to seven times a week for approximately two hours per session. * Nocturnal home hemodialysis (NHHD) - done 3.5 to seven times per week at night.
Notice none of these would require multiple daily hemodialysis. I even saw a web advertisement for an at-home dialysis machine which you can do it overnight, while you sleep.
All I can say is that if he truly needed daily dialysis, he shouldn't have been working in the first place. She should be thankful they fired him. They probably extended his life.
Maybe. She was probably one of the 38 let go by the Cleveland Plain Squealer today. Most often these people are copy editors. There will be a lot more coming in the next few months. Gannett is barely hanging on. McClatchy may or may not survive '09. After Sam Zell sells the Cubs, his ability to pay on the debt is going to be next to impossible. He isn't going to use any more of his own money to keep that ship afloat. The Cubs sale should buy the Trib one more year.
NEW YORK -- Two pilot studies of "intensive hemodialysis," or dialysis that is more frequent than the current standard of three times a week, are in the planning stages, officials from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease announced at the annual conference of the American...(emphasis mine)
Those words sort of leaped out at me because it means that she and her husband work for the MSM. Also, isn't dialysis done 3 times a week instead of 3 times a day? And I've never heard of dialysis being done at home instead of a clinic or hospital.
If it were an economic layoff, the company doesn’t “fight,” unless it makes up facts to charge her with a disqualifying reason such as absenteeism or what-not. She’s lying about either the reason she was let go or that the company contested her claim.
The company must report why the termination was made and in every state, business conditions cannot cause the state to deny.
Liar but who is surprised?

I was employed by a privately owned hospital in the late 80s. We had an exceptional staff, outstanding physicians and great morale. We were a small outfit, yet provided excellent care to the community.
Then it changed hands and the new owners sent in a 26 y/o whiz kid with an MBA. He slashed staffing to dangerous levels; one RN for 30 patients. He alienated the physicians, but met his corporate goals and got his bonus. Within a year, 85% of the experienced staff moved on.
I took two part time jobs to make up for a 60% cut in hours then was counseled for not being ‘loyal’ because I wasn’t available for work when they called on my days off.
No comparison to a news organization, but the corporate mentality she describes is real. I’ve been there.
