FORT MYERS Ho, Ho, Ho! Santa Claus is allowed back at Florida Gulf Coast University.
FGCUs president reversed his decision to ban Christmas decorations.
In an e-mail message sent to the campus Wednesday, university president Wilson Bradshaw, Ph.D. acknowledged the overwhelming negative response to his original letter banning all holiday and seasonal decorations from the schools common areas, citing legal limitations.
It is now clear to me that we have erred in our attempt to find a balance between how best to observe the season in ways that honor all traditions while also allowing employees to express their individual beliefs during the upcoming holiday season, Dr. Bradshaw wrote. As stated in my earlier message, there was no attempt to suppress expression of the holiday spirit. However, the message was received differently, and for this, I am sorry.
Bradshaw had originally told the campus that no holiday decorations of any sort would be allowed in the common public spaces, spawning an outcry from staff and students.
"Trying to adhere to tenets of political correctness was not the basis for the earlier decision"?
LOL-riiiiiiight
TRANSLATION: You chose to believe your lying ears. It wasn't my fault.
Initially some of the bosses tried to crack down on the practice of secretaries at Headquarters having a creche or two at the desk, but they eventually gave up once everyone realized what the BOG ruling actually said.
I think this really POed the anti-Christian types but in an organization as diverse as USPS you get just everyody ~ and targeting Christians for harrassment really wasn't in the cards.
This university president seems to have failed to figure out what might happen.
I guess we gave this jerk an earfull.
Sheesh, these people aren’t even embarrassed.
Only someone with PhD following their name could come up with a tortured explanation like that, claiming no fault whatsoever.
“Holiday Decorations Allowed Back at Florida University “
which holiday?
Bet some alumni let him have it.
I think that's called an oxmoronic statement.
How does it ‘disrespect’ other traditions by observing our own. Do I care if Muslims don’t eat pork in front of me, or celbrate whatever it is by butchering a goat? Hell, no. You don’t like bacon, it’s ok with me, and so is celbrating whatever holy days that you observe.
but I demand the right to eat pork if I feel like it, and to celbrate Christmans, Easter, and the 4th of July, and if that’s disagreeable to you, tough.
You gotta work to be as stupid as most university administrators seem to be, though, or maybe they just don't have any balls.
I vote for the last.
Merry Christmas Is NOT Offensive (Rabbi Daniel Lapin Urges Respect For Christian Holiday Alert)
As an FGCU student, I can say the place is every bit as loony as the Ivy League schools. But the girls are gorgeous, so it balances out.
I dunno. It isn't clear from the pres's words. Arbor day? Armistice Day? What is clear, though, is whose fault it is:
However, the message was received differently, and for this, I am sorry.
Yep. It's our fault. Personally I'm crushed, and I feel we all owe Dr. Bradshaw a heartfelt apology. Here's mine: "Hey yo, Doc, I'm sorry you received it differently when I called you a brainless PC Scrooge. I meant it in the nicest possible way."
Yeah right. Who is he kidding????
Sounds like a reasonable guy. Wish there were more of them
“Only someone with PhD following their name could come up with a tortured explanation like that, claiming no fault whatsoever”
Yep, another academic PhD jackass. I suspect this one’s socialist tendencies got carried away this year, caused by his euphoria of having a socialist about to enter the WH.
“how best to observe the season in ways that honor all traditions”
For a guy with a Ph.D. he’s a moron. “All traditions” don’t celebrate Christmas (only Christaians do) so why should Christmas be changed to celebrate them?
Diversity is about Sameness.
“HEY! Leave us PhDs out of this. I worked hard for mine, and I’m proud of it.”
Me too.
If you prick us (Ph,D,’s that is) we still bleed ...
This is the reason
I will be thankful tomorrow for the end of the liberal media's monopoly.
Because the word got out, we brought the heat. Because the word got out, we shut them down and forced them to do the right thing. By 'we' I mean conservatives and americans who still cherish our heritage, national identity, and culture.
And I feel safe saying 'we', because I don't expect to run into many liberals who would be outraged over this story.
