Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's team has told the Federal Election Commission that she continued her campaign even after endorsing Democratic presidential rival Barack Obama on June 7, a claim that lets her transfer millions of dollars from her presidential bid to her Senate campaign.
The former first lady made the $6.4 million transfer from her White House campaign, which remains more than $7 million in debt, to Friends of Hillary on Aug. 28. That date would fall outside the legal deadline for making such a move if her campaign were to have ended June 7.
Her campaign treasurer told federal regulators that Mrs. Clinton spent more than a quarter-million dollars engaging in "vigorous political activity" throughout June, according to newly released FEC filings.
"The committee continued to actively contest for delegates at the state and local delegate-selection events during the month of June," campaign treasurer Shelly Moskwa wrote in a letter to the FEC dated Nov. 20. "Nothing in Senator Clinton's remarks indicated that she was withdrawing from the race.
"While she indicated that she was suspending her campaign, the term 'suspension' has no legal meaning," Ms. Moskwa wrote.
Precisely when Mrs. Clinton, who is expected to be Mr. Obama's secretary of state nominee, dropped out of the Democratic presidential primaries is emerging as an important legal question for FEC regulators examining the transfer of funds. Such transfers are legal if donors give their permission, and the Clinton campaign has said donors indeed authorized the move.

It depends on the meaning of the word "is", does it not. LOL. So it continues.
Look, it doesn't matter anymore. The terms "moral rectitude", "standards", "principles", they don't mean anything in our government. Loyalty...gone. Every man for himself.
Oh that's right.
She is a democrat.
As Sec of State she is now 5th in line behind the Senate pro tem, Speaker of House, Vice Pres, Pres....
Scary stuff!
Dear Dasher, we have the example of Colin Powell who worked against and stabbed his own President in the back. Who was a favorite of and protected by the media because he leaked so freely. Why not this? It's who and what our politicians are.
More change we need?
Why didn’t President-Elect Little Squirt pay it? It would have been about 1% of his total raised.
But, but, but she will help the commoner.
This is amazing (but not surprising).... so if I understand correctly, she could have just about paid off the $7 million owed but chose instead to transfer $6.4 million to her “Senate” campaign fund which would be for a campaign in 2012.... or a slush fund for providing money to other candidates around the country, since IIRC the bizarre campaign finance laws allow her to disperse all kinds of money from her “Friends of Hillary Clinton” Senate campaign fund to other PACs and candidates?? Anyone know for sure?
Maybe she just wanted the $6.4 million to buy favors and goodwill from other pols in the years to come? Why pay your debts when you can push the money into a slush fund for the future?
Anyway, what does seem clear is that she took $6.4 million off the “table” of her Presidential campaign fund, in order to preserve it for future uses, while leaving $7 million in unpaid debts from her recent primary campaign.
Does not sound like honest dealings to me!!!!
There is very little honest about Hillary Clinton and never will be.
Sec. of State going rogue already - no controlling legal authority? Saints preserve us!
If Hillary was as smart as people think she is, she wouldn’t take the SOS nomination. My prediction: After 6 months, rumors will leak out about growing tensions between Obama and Hillary. Then the press will openly report on serious disagreements between the two. In 18 months, Obama will fire Hillary, effectively ending her political career.

She’s the perfect pick for 0bamas “change”
Well for once I think Dick Morris was right. He says after the first major international event expect to hear leaks about how Secretary Clinton tried to warn the President.
