GOP to file suit to undo McCain rules
The Washington Times ^ | 11/13/08 | Ralph Hallow

Posted on 11/13/2008 5:10:54 AM PST by HastertFan

The Republican Party will file federal lawsuits Thursday seeking to overthrow the McCain-Feingold federal campaign finance regulations, Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. "Mike" Duncan revealed Wednesday night at a private dinner with the nation's Republican governors.

The move is considered a slap in the face of the Republican Party's failed 2008 presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who was dramatically outspent by Democrat Barack Obama, and of President Bush, who signed McCain-Feingold into law in 2002.

"We will bring two federal suits tomorrow to strengthen the Republican Party," Mr. Duncan told The Washington Times.

Mr. Duncan said one suit will be filed in the District of Columbia to strike down the soft-money ban that is the central tenet of the McCain-Feingold Act — formally known as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002. "Soft money" is largely unrestricted contributions from wealthy individuals, corporations and labor unions.

The second suit will be in a Louisiana federal court to strike down the limits under the law Mr. McCain co-sponsored with Sen. Russ Feingold, Wisconsin Democrat, that control coordination between parties and their candidates.

"It prohibits us from spending over $84,000 in coordination with a candidate in a congressional race," Mr. Duncan said. "That means we have to find some group to raise and spend money but without any coordination" with the candidate, his campaign or the RNC.

Let's get this party back under control of Conservatives before it's too late.

You rang? and I agree!

While they are at it, they need to spearhead movements in the states with early primaries to change the rules to block Dims from crossing over and voting in our primaries and picking the weakest candidate for us.

A big AMEN to that!!

The law was a slap in the face to all Americans but the Smirking Chimp signed it after his Pack Mule McCain pushed it through for him.

Dittos for the Republicans in Congress who voted for it and for the Suprerme Court for not overturning it as an unconstitutional restriction on free speech. I think this is a noble effort but much too late.

>"The concessions to their preferred candidate cannot be matched in funds when it comes to air time">

Then let US All deny the ENEmedia AIRTIME. Stop viewing. Stop purchasing (movies, musestank, cable/satelite) the rope they are using to hang US!

No more TV conventions/state to state primaries! We have the ability to hold our primaries at the convention. The convention should be one or two nights for however many weeks it takes to give OUR candidates equal time to present themselves for national vetting.

One thing is for sure. The way it's going now is efffed big time. It needs changing, cause it aint workin.

Hopefully, this is a sign the GOP is changing from the McCain Party to the Palin Party.

I thought McCain/Feingold already went before the Supreme Court and was upheld?

It was, but since then the Nine High Priests of Justice have shot down two parts of McCain-Feingold. Read Federal Election Commission v. Wisconsin Right to Life, Inc. (2007) and Davis v. Federal Election Commission (2008).

Of all the things I am disappointed in President Bush with, including lack of party leadership, immigration, lack of aggressiveness and so on, it is his signing of McCain-Feingold that I am most disappointed in.

He abdicated his responsibility and his oath of office when he signed it.

I think he is a good man, and I think he has prosecuted the war well, but his handling of McCain-Feingold still rankles me.

"We will bring two federal suits tomorrow to strengthen the Republican Party," Mr. Duncan told The Washington Times. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That oughta show those dirty dems!( sarc.)

I am underwhelmed.

McCain is a RINO patsy

BRING BACK TOM DELAY. The Hammer. Scourge of the Dems, who even tremble now at his very shadow.

Strengthen the Republican party by putting conservatives in control of it,not a bunch of hind tit sucking RINO pork barrelers.

I would not complain if the entire Alabama and Louisiana Republican Congressional Delegation took over the Republican Party.
