Grand Junction Rep. Bernie Buescher the presumed next speaker of the House and head of the powerful Joint Budget Committee conceded the election today in a shocking upset.
Buescher is a star among state Democrats, one of the go-to lawmakers at the Capitol, especially when it came to the state budget. He was at the top of the list to replace House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, who was term-limited.
Buescher said his phone had hardly stopped ringing today with consolatory calls from top state Democrats. The governor praised him this morning at a news conference, calling him "just a fantastic human being."
He said Republicans attacked him for his support of Ritter's controversial mill-levy freeze that kept tax rates from dropping and on oil and gas issues.
"They wanted change."

Thanks for the great news george!
Two years and the democrat failure will sweep many from office. The trick then is to keep RIONO’s out. George76, how do you like my new sig line, modeled after yours?
Oh, keep the RINO’s out! My typo. The other “O” in RIONO could be Oprah or Obama. Either could replace Snow, Hagel or Graham and no one wold notice! No socialists or communists in the Republican Party!
Here in Chaffee county we knocked off two democrat
county commissioners out of three democrats.

Good jobs with your new sig line.
Good work.

White wins Senate District 8
Interesting! I thought 46 had failed. Last night the Post had other amendments listed but not that one. Curious. thanks for the info on the “upset” in GJ. I have not had a chance to look at where we stand in the state house. My local rep for senate (Lauri Clapp) lost by about 150 votes. Terrible.
With 87 percent of the projected vote counted, the measure was trailing by just 13,479 votes, out of nearly 2 million votes cast.
Voters in Nebraska passed a similar measure on Tuesday.
Both measures are backed by Ward Connerly, a former University of California regent who has helped pass similar proposals in California, Michigan and Washington State.
Thanks george76.
