Pittsburgh TV Station: ACORN Vote Fraud No Big Deal Since It's an American Tradition

So ACORN is committing vote fraud on a massive scale? Hey, not to worry. Vote fraud is an American traditon practiced by all the political parties. That absurd assertion was made by Bob Ponting in an article on Pittsburgh WTAE TV station's Politics web page. Ponting starts off by "reassuring" us that despite the massive vote fraud by ACORN, it is a tradition dating back to the earliest years of the Republic (emphasis mine):

Long before the first vote is cast on Nov. 4, Republicans are crying foul and warning of fraud in the presidential election.

The allegations, which are widespread in the conservative blogosphere, on cable news and talk radio, were echoed during the final presidential debate when Sen. John McCain charged that Acorn, a group that works with low income and minority communities, was “now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy.”

The charges of voter fraud stem from the number of irregular voter registrations turned in by Acorn this year. By some reports, up to 30 percent of the 1.3 million voter registrations the group gathered were faulty. Democrats say the level of problem registrations is surprisingly high, but they dispute the Republican contention that it is an attempt to steal the election, calling such claims outlandish.

Whether or not the Acorn mess is an attempt at voter fraud, partisans have been trying to game the system for as long as there have been democratic elections. Questionable election tactics were used by many of the founding fathers. Even George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were not above wooing unmotivated voters to the polls with free rum on Election Day.

Don't worry. Be happy. ACORN is merely engaging in an old American tradition...according to this TV station.

The DBM's standard retort is usually... “But you know, Republicans always try to suppress the vote”.

Wooing voters with rum (or any other bribe) is not to be excused. I don’t care who did it.

As bad as that is, it pales in comparison to casting multiple votes, allowing illegals to vote, allowing felons to vote, allowing dead people to vote, allowing Mickey Mouse to vote, ....

This is what the left is doing.

Yes, there are irregularities on both sides. There are certainly right wing voters who break the law or skirt it. But unlike the left, these are rare exceptions and this behavior is not condoned by the right. The lefties give only lip service to fairness and honesty while doing everything they can to subvert it. Sometimes they don’t even give lip service. Their true beliefs leak out: (”spread the wealth”, “get in their faces”)

The lefties LOVE to point to anything the opposition has done that is questionable or illegal and then use that to excuse MASSIVE crime and corruption by themselves. They also use it to divert attention from their massive, planned, systematic corruption.

As if Republicans could get away with something like this.

"Laws for voting fraud, Code level federal document stealing, and other felonies
simply do not apply to Democrats or illegal aliens. Get over it."

Somewhat off topic, but did you see this? A pro-Obama policy wonk compares McCain to Saddam Hussein:

Dean Baker, Co-director, Center for Economic Policy Research:

No one would expect Saddam Hussein to get good press. The reality is that he was a pretty bad guy and objective reporting would show this. While the analogy is overblown, the fact is that Senator McCain is supports policies that are really bad for the vast majority of the American people and has run a terrible campaign.

At the most basic level, he had been an eager support of the one-sided regulatory policy that allowed banks free rein to take risks with the taxpayer dollars under the "too big to fail" doctrine. This helps the incredibly rich, but as his George W. Bush told the country, it risks giving us another Great Depression. Reduce...

His tax policy would almost exclusively benefit the richest 1 percent of the public and his health care plan seems as though it was designed by the insurance industry. His whining about Obama's ties to terrorists and questioning of his patriotism would do Joe McCarthy proud.

Objective reporting would show Senator McCain in a really bad light. If anything, he has benefited from affirmative action in reporting because the media feel obligated not to paint such a negative picture of a major party candidate.

"Everyone does it" or "it's been around forever" is a dem talking point. Murder has been around forever too - would these esteemed members of the MSM fall for that excuse if it was applied to murder?

What idiots.
