2004 Interview: Obama Talks about Jesus, Heaven and Sin June 3, 2008
CBN ^

With Barack Obama about to head into the general election, he’ll need to re-introduce himself to the American people. Many folks just don’t know that much about him. One thing we do know is that Obama is a Christian, not a Muslim. He talks about his Christian faith quite a bit but because of some of his liberal positions (read: abortion, civil unions) he’s going to need to really work hard to convince religious moderates and religious conservatives that they have common ground.

In 2004, he gave an interview to Cathleen Falsani who was the religion reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times. I must say the whole interview is remarkable. Below are some parts of it where Obama talks about Jesus, heaven and sin. The whole interview can be read here.

(GG is God Girl aka Cathleen Falsani) GG: Who’s Jesus to you?

OBAMA: Right. Jesus is a historical figure for me, and he’s also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher. And he’s also a wonderful teacher. I think it’s important for all of us, of whatever faith, to have teachers in the flesh and also teachers in history.

Barack Obama comes across to me as a secular humanist who sees Jesus Christ as a figure who did some “good things” like “community organizing” and preaching “peace and tolerance”.

He inspired Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. but that’s about it for Obama’s love of Jesus. He’s too full of himself to acknowledge a higher power.

He doesn’t believe in a Father to “come to”.

He carries around Hindu monkey charms in his pocket.

What is his faith? Socialism.

To be clear, Obama said that if things get nasty (with people harassing muslims in America after another 9-11 type terrorist attack) he would side with muslims.

HOWEVER, Barack Obama’s followers are already getting nasty towards McCain-Palin supporters (assault, vandalism, arson, witchhunts) and he is NOT siding with Republicans’ rights to their political beliefs.

Well that puts Obama more on Jesus’ side than Christopher Hitchens. He denies that Jesus even existed and claims that there is more evidence of a King Arthur than a Jesus.

Exactly! The Bible is CLEAR - Jesus is the ONLY way to the Father. Sin is disobedience to God and His Holy Spirit, not disobedience to ourselves, barak. Not sure He’s been reading his Bible.

He believes in a living Bible just like we need a living interpretation of the constitution.

Obama believes:
  1. "Jesus is an historical figure for [him]."
  2. Personal belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior is not necessary
  3. Right standing before God is achieved by works
  4. Sin is "being out of alignment with his (Obama's) values."

Jesus claims:

  1. He is the "Alpha and Omega", the beginning and the end.
  2. Unless a man be born again that he cannot enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
  3. He is the truth, the way and the life, and no man comes to the Father except by Him.
  4. Sin is being out of alignment with God's values (the Law).
