The political arm of Veterans of Foreign Wars on Saturday endorsed Democratic U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson, who did not serve in the military, over Republican challenger Pete Olson, a former Navy pilot and Pentagon liaison.
Also, the National Rifle Association made its backing of Lampson official, months after signaling its support of his legislative votes for gun ownership rights.

Space nuts are more liberal than you think,
Don’t act all surprised. The VFW PAC also endorsed Che-Porter over Jeb Bradley in NH 1st District over the howling objections of both NH VFW leadership AND rank-and-file. It’s got something to do with her blatant pandering for getting a VA hospital into NH becase, as she sniffles, we’re the only state without one. Nevermind the fact that there are at least SIX within a two-hour drive of any point in New Hampshire, mind you, and that there are plenty of outpatient and treatment facilities.
The other 5% he will try to appease Conservatives in Tom Delay's old district to keep his seat.
I'm not fooled.
I have two Pete Olson signs in my yard.
Good Luck Pete.
US District 22 Ping.
NRA did the same thing in OK in Dr. Coburn’s race and caused the GOA to pick up a lot of memberships in OK.
Someone needs to check the NRA and see what party some of these people belong.
Looks like the left’s infiltration of traditionally conservative groups is coming to the surface.
Someone needs to check the NRA and see what party some of these people belong.
I thought the NRA was not politically for either party.
Not really that surprising. If Lampson has a record of voting for more funding for veterans issues such as VA Hospitals, etc., the VFW PAC will endorse him.
As for the NRA, they will endorse any incumbent with a good record on gun rights over any challenger with a good or great view on gun rights: The NRA’s point is that the incumbent is a proven commodity on their single issue and therefore is to be protected. Hell, the NRA used to endorse the “Godfather of the New Left” Senator George McGovern all the time - because he was damned near perfect on their issue. It’s what you get with single-issue groups.
This raises two questions for me on the national level. Where have the Christian Coalition and the NRA been this campaign season? Have I missed them?
“I thought the NRA was not politically for either party.”
You are exactly right. The NRA is, and always has been, bi-partisan. If you are an incumbent who supports their issues, you will be endorsed - no matter who the challenger is or what the challenger says.
This is the primary reason I have been an on again, off again NRA supporter. You just have to wonder what they are thinking, not unlike the disjointed thinking of the liberal masses.
I was just about to make the plunge again back in with a two year reduced rate and a free bag, but now I’m back in the “why should I be so stupid” mode. Since 1956 the NRA has been not much more than a political disappointment to me.
If they stuck to their guns “so to speak” and kept their political mouth shut I would be a whole lot happier. Unfortunately under the circumstances I would be wondering what is going on under the radar.
GOA, JPFO, and SAF, have never once left the reservation such that it has gotten my attention in the same way NRA manages. I have to ask myself why I continue to be stunned by their consistent political behavior.
The NRA endorsed Kanjorski (the most likely House democrat to be defeated in November) over Lou Barletta in Pennsylvania too. There policy is to support the incumbent over the challenger if both are pro-gun rights.
So much for the dem’s BS of “NRA=National Republican Association.” Yes the endorse more republicans, but that is soley because more republicans are in favor of our second amendment rights.

GOA is much more particular than is the NRA in its pro-gun attitude. Truth be told, the NRA is more or less the “moderate” (albeit the largest) of the pro-gun groups.
Look, I don’t even own a gun but I do believe 2nd Amendment rights are sancrosanct. As such, I usually follow the ratings and claims of the GOA more so than I do the NRA.
The NRA is, and always has been, bi-partisan.
I find this to be the same philosophy as being a moderate, and Rush Limbaugh has the best definition thereof. It is so easy anyone can do it. It takes guts to take a stand.
Just being from Beaumont is enough...(GRIN)... Being a crook and a democrat is one in the same...
