Sarah Palin will make an appearance today in Roswell, NM, which since 1947 has been associated with an often alleged crash of a UFO.
The Daily Kos mob is already mocking her for this -- do they do anything else but mock? -- but I think it shows great imagination. This could draw the attention of some voters who are interested in UFOs and every vote counts.
My opinion only to be sure....TPD
Perhaps she’s performing a backgroud check on Dennis Kucinich?
I can just see the jokes coming out of this one.
Ditto!
We are one of many!
Worlds without end.
I’ve been to Roswell. Nice, quiet little Southwestern town. I passed through there on a trans-continental move in 2003. I stayed for a couple of days.
On the same trip, I also visited Mesilla, where Biden was the other day. And Ruidoso, which was in the news a few months ago with nasty flooding.
And a sense of fun. Plus, I'll bet the folks in Roswell, especially those depending on tourist bucks which have to be tight in this economy, will be darnged glad of the visit.
Note to Gov. Palin: You go, girl! :)
Perhaps if they'd detour a bit farther south they could use the town of Truth or Consequences, NM, as a better place to make their case against "that one"....
I missed that when I was there. My next stop was Carlsbad- then off into the Oil Patch.
I think its a great place for the campaign to visit.
Making preparations for a Tina Fey sendoff after the election.
opinion yes fact no.
Perhaps she’ll visit the James Carville impact crater..
Haven't been there in a very long time, but still looks like a neat place :)
Mmmm...fajitas at Garduño’s in Las Cruces...
Okay- I have to stop thinking Southwest now. :-)
LOL. Ditto :)
Perhaps she will find 0bama’s birth certificate - from Krypton.
I think she’s wasting her time. All the aliens (human and otherwise) are committed to the Demonrats. That “alien corpse” kept in the secret govt. warehouse has been seen at early-voting sites in several states. Unless maybe that was James Carville.
Regardless of the jokes, Republicans campaigning in New Mexico at this point in the contest is money and time down the drain. That’s the real joke here.
NM is voting blue this time.
Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if - in the future - NM votes blue EVERY time.

I spent a couple of weeks in NM this summer. NM sucks. The cities are traffic nightmares. The rural areas are broken down and dirty. Every time you want to go somewhere or do something, the NA’s have their hands out and they are as assertive as New Yorkers.
New Mexico should go back to old Mexico.
PING
Agreed we don't know what kind of stuff is out there
I’m seriously laughing.
Surely a really good speech could be written using the theme "truth or consequences.
Thanks.
IIRC, More than 80% believe
that UFO’s exist.
I think most of those believe that they are from other than earth.
And, they believe that the government has been involved in heavy duty cover-up for decades.
WOW.
What a cheery perspective.
Thankfully, a lot of us here love NM.
There’s vistas and natural beauty many miss just passing through.
We also have the highest per capita PhD’s in the Nation.
I suppose you like traffic in New York or LA?
BTW, are you typically this cheery to spouse and family in the morning? Can anyone stand being in the same room with you before you have your coffee?
How much rebellion has discipline without relationship caused with teenagers in your home?
Do your wisdom teeth hurt or do you have two chronic in-grown toenails?
Sheesh.
New Mexico has a host of problems—corrupt politics being amongst them. But there’s a host of conservative God-fearing patriots here, too.
UFO just means its unidentified. More than likely 99% of what people are seeing are our own black project things.
The naysayers seem to think they do. LOL.
I think all manner of good copy could have come from a Truth or Consequences visit and set of speeches.
Great idea.
BTW, is Bob Barker still alive?
I should have called you before I came out.
The traffic in Santa Fe was worse than Boston. Seriously. It seemed that they were starting all of their construction projects at once. It didn’t matter what time of day I was trying to get around.
Every place I went (from the Southeast to the Northwest and just about everywhere in between, it was virtually impossible to get to any decent place to photograph anything without being told it was “sacred” ground, but for $20 they could take me on it. I guess a photo that is paid for is not sacred.
That said, perhaps my vitriol was harsh due to lack of caffeine.
When I come back in a couple of years, I will be sure to get in touch with some “real folks” before I come out. I am open to having my mind changed.
I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy the New Mexico I know. I have fantastic photos from Riudoso & Roswell, plus some just taken out the window commuting between the two at 70 mph.
Another amazing place, Inn of the Mountain Gods..yep the back deck at the casino has a fabulous view.
Next time you go out ping the New Mexico List, I'm sure we can all help you have a great trip and see the real New Mexico
Have a great sunday!
Wow, both of them, huh?
Thanks for your wonderfully charitable reply.
The Native Americans are tired of being taken undue advantage of and have learned to make what they can where they can however they can. Besides that, they are as human and fallen to greed and mercenary motives as the rest of us.
The days are probably past (until maybe the midst of the looming depression) when a Dine (Navajo rug) that took days to weeks or even months to make would sell for $50.00
Have you been overseas?
Nevertheless, many Native Americans are wonderful people with big hearts and a host of them are excellent artists. I love the Dine (Navajos) here in the NW—though some are horrific to have on the payroll for a list of reasons. Others are as hard working, brilliant and loyal as anyone you’d find.
People are people.
And alcohol is a huge problem along with obesity and diabetes.
The construction projects tend to be crowded into the warm months. Makes a mess of auto tourism. Sorry.
Some of the best skiing in the country is around Taos, as I understand it. Certainly Taos and Santa Fe are great places to visit. White Sands and Carlsbad are notable areas and major sights. Navajo Dam is good fishing recreation and water sports. There’s good hunting in the mountains in the North Eastern quarter of the State.
Sure there’s a lot of dreadfully boring miles between a lot of places. But that’s true in some of AZ, too.
The Albuquerque balloon festival is a great one—perhaps the best one. The Sandia Tram ride offers an incredible vista from the Sandia Peaks.
Anyway—it’s not as bad a place as some think.
Thanks for your kind reply.
...AND I'M GOING TO EAT ALL OF YOUR FAJITAS.
Silly rabbit.
White Sands; Sandia Labs; Los Alamos . . . plus the universities and various kinds of research ongoing here other than Top Secret.
And, there’s usually plenty of archeologists and anthropologists running around loose here somewhere.
Do illegal aliens from Kenya go there?
Just so you don’t eat all our sopapillas!
I grew up for a while around Chama. Gorgeous country.
Area around Las Vagas, NM is a little weird. Our family was driving on the highway about 50 miles outside of Las Vegas NM, about midnight, headed back to Texas from skiing, when a pickup pulled up behind us. Tailgated us from 65mph to 85 mph, then we slowed down to 35, back up to 55 then 75 back to 55, with him still tailgating. Then he passed as we slowed down again as we were approaching 20 miles out from the township limits of Las Vegas NM.
Then he slowed down to about 35 and when we tried to pass, he’d speed up to avoid us passing him.
After awhile, this went on for a good 45 minutes to an hour, and he was in a flat black short bed pickup, GMC, (this was back in the 70s),..after awhile he sped up and disappeared. As we approached the town limits, we saw him parked in a driveway waiting for us, and he pulled out in fron again, then exited into a bar/saloon, where in the parking lot there were about a dozen other pickups, all painted the same flat black paint like out of a can of Krylon.
We kept on going and didn’t want to slow down.
Some buddies who had grown up between El Paso and Albequerque mentioned Las Vegas NM was known for Mexican drug running gangs in that area. That was some 30 years go, I don’t know what the place is like now.
Puts a different SW flavor on Men in Black.
Freaky.
Did you see any UFO’s those days?
Or hear of any cattle mutilations?
Lots of places in NE NM I wouldn’t want to go alone or even with body guards . . . particularly at night.
Was the guy in the black pickup Caucasian or what?
Start at the Capitol Grill in Roswell!
If I’d known about it- I’d have tried it when I was there last!
Naw, come to Texas for that. Years ago, on one of our traditional family camping vacations in NM I needed some fajita meat (beef skirts actually), they said WHAT??? Now they act like they invented the idea, nope, pure South Texas fare, at least at first.
I'm talkin' RIO GRANDE VALLEY South Texas now!
It turns out that “Klaatu Barada Nikto” actually translates into English as “You Betcha”.
