If there were a democrat in the governor’s office, they would simply push for taxing everybody, even those without children, to pay for the program.

Amen!! If Mufi (Honolulu mayor) gets his way and wins over Duke Aiona (Lingle's lt gov, also Republican) next election, you can bet that's what we'll see.

Our friend who criticized Lingle above doesn't apparently know much about the state's legislature which has a veto-proof majority to end all veto-proof majorities. They've even refused to pass bills they previously would have been for just because they didn't want Republican Lingle to get credit for them.

Hawaii is dropping the only state universal child health care program
in the country just seven months after it launched.

This is pretty darned amazing...seeing how generally liberal Hawaii is.

"People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it so they could get it for free,"

No kidding. These libs are pretty dumb. There's examples all over the world of why socialism doesn't work. It punishes the successful because they not only pay for themselves but pay for others as well. People catch on pretty quick to stop being punished.

I have an even better health plan. I refuse to go to doctors. Many of them do more harm than good.

I'm of the same opinion, GGma. Many are too lazy to actually figure out something difficult. I went to numerous docs for a somewhat rare nerve compression. However, the location of my pain should've been a clue and even the stupidist doc could've found the condition by consulting an anatomy book. Not one bothered. They have to know exactly what it is the minute they see you or they're onto the next patient (and their money, of course.)

I mean, if it’s for low-income families, then it should be so. When Middle Class wants to start drinking from that teat as well, the whole thing is gonna crash.

When the middle class is punished for NOT being poor, that is the start of the problem. The 'poor' have as much stuff as those working hard - because they not only do not pay taxes but get our tax dollars back and get tons of free handouts. It's the middle class that gets screwed.

Socialism causes a lack of motivation to succeed. Blaming the people for being tired of being used is ridiculous. Why slave away and work hard when the results are negligible? (BTW, looking at the former USSR satellite countries and how innovative and prosperous their people are becoming under capitalism is a breath of fresh air these days! Same people, different policies made all the difference.)

I know of a doctor who lost his job because he was not seeing enough patients each day. In other words he was not producing his share of revenue.

Maybe it's just that my husband and I were blessed with good health but we're far healthier than others in our age and they go to the doctors and take meds where we do not go to doctors and do not take meds.

I’m sure GPs are expected to see so many patients per day. That really cuts down on quality. The overpaid specialists I went to should’ve had the time to do some research, however. If for nothing else, to expand their education and experience. I guess the fact that I had to pay even though they were useless was all that mattered.

Governor Lingle did not support the plan. She’s a Republican governor in an overwhelmingly Democratic state. She’s the one CLOSING the program. And she’ll be roundly critized as the ‘evil Republican’ for doing so.

Hawaii is facing extremely serious financial problems. Gov. Lingle has the guts to tell people what they don’t want to hear .... programs have to be cut.

Absolutely correct. People do not understand that Lingle is the first Republican governor in Hawaii in over 50 years!
