Hawaii is dropping the only state universal child health care program in the country just seven months after it launched.

Gov. Linda Lingle's administration cited budget shortfalls and other available health care options for eliminating funding for the program. A state official said families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.

This is the really funny quote:

"People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it so they could get it for free," said Dr. Kenny Fink, the administrator for Med-QUEST at the Department of Human Services. "I don't believe that was the intent of the program."

Here in PA we have the CHIPS program and I can name at least 5 adults, who can *easily* afford healthcare for their families, yet have their kids on CHIPS because it’s free.

They cite that the free coverage is more inclusive with better coverage than what they can get on their own. Ticks me off ‘cause were paying $550 a month for coverage that’s like “Joe’s insurance” with high deductables and I’m not cooking the books to “qualify” my kids for CHIPS.

I mean, if it’s for low-income families, then it should be so. When Middle Class wants to start drinking from that teat as well, the whole thing is gonna crash.

"it was helping those who didn't need it"

Obviously not. Who's to say who "needs" help and who doesn't? 0be?

Oh wait. The same thing is happening now with mortgages and credit cards...
Why suffer and pay what you owe when the Government will bail you out....

Wait wait wait...so if you take one group of people (we’ll call them “Producers”) and force them to pay for something so you can give it to a second group (we’ll call them “Looters”), the first group dries up as they can’t/won’t pay double, and the second group multiplies?

It has long been one of the arguments against socialism that it won’t work because, as the state takes from the earners and gives to the takers, the earners lose incentive to earn and eventually ‘switch sides’ until there are no more earners, only takers.

Why are people unable to see the accuracy of a truism when it is presented? (Bang head against wall.)

Because they want "the world as it should be" instead of the one we've got.

Raise your hand is you were too dense to see this coming...anyone....Bueler....anyone...

Apparently, Ms Lingle, you were the only one who didn't see this coming.

If not for Republican Governor Lingle, there would be no defunding of the program.

If there were a democrat in the governor’s office, they would simply push for taxing everybody, even those without children, to pay for the program.
