The Keiki (child) Care program aimed to cover every child from birth to 18 years old who didn't already have health insurance — mostly immigrants and members of lower-income families.

Visions of migrant farmers walking the desert for the seasonal pineapple harvest.

From what I can see, MA is in a similar boat. Romney's mandated health care for everyone isn't dead yet, but I think it won't last long.

Also, probably related, my last two visits to my health care provider have been singularly unpleasant. The place is no longer clean, waits are long, staff is surly, they do only the minimum needed and offer nothing they don't have to (I arrived with a badly sprained ankle and could barely walk -- did they offer a wheelchair? No, but they pointed vaguely to the elevator).

Socialized medicine causes both scarcity and a lack of quality.

“From what I can see, MA is in a similar boat. Romney’s mandated health care for everyone isn’t dead yet, but I think it won’t last long”.

...MA is in debt to the tune of 190 million due to “free” health care alone. And that goes up 5-10 million per month!!

“families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.”

Who couldn’t see this coming? Politicians should be required to read 2 books, “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Total Money Makeover.”

I mean, if it’s for low-income families, then it should be so. When Middle Class wants to start drinking from that teat as well, the whole thing is gonna crash.

Us conservatives usually like to say that a program like this provides a disincentive for people to be successful. Why should they work hard to earn more, if those who work very little, get more and better services?

Using Akinsky’s own tactics to bring down the system. Overwhelm the system by using the tools they hand you.

Iowa has their HAWKI program to insure children and they actually put commercials on the radio to get parents to sign up their children.

I have an even better health plan. I refuse to go to doctors. Many of them do more harm than good.

I was forced to see a doctor this year as I had applied for some long-term ins. and since I had no medical history to speak of they insisted I get a physical.

The doctor said I was boring and said he was going to keep looking until he found something wrong with me. He was delighted to find a toe fungus, which I found could be cured with Bragg's vinegar.

Gov. Linda Lingle's administration cited budget shortfalls and other available health care options for eliminating funding for the program

Let's hear it for Hawaii for dropping a stupid program to balance its budget! Aloha universal health care! (or should I say Sayanaro?)

A state official said families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.

Um. Duh? And what do you think businesses are going to do under The One's plan?

But...but...that’s the object....everyone on the same plan eventually....all under the auspices of the government...at least that is what Obama is saying...what he calls “the big pool”

“families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.”

I had often wondered about how my neighbors were doing some of the things they were doing and after Katrina I found out. No Flood insurance, no car insurance, but Uncle paid through the nose and those that had been responsible were shafted as usual. This seems to run across all classes. The housing meltdown could have been predicted after Katrina just by the number of people living in 500K and up houses that were using interest only loans and inadequate insurance. I guess driving multiple Mercedes and having a million dollar house is more important than being responsiible.

Looks like Hawaii has plenty of the same type. It seems to run in Democratic families. Don’t worry be happy, Father Obama will make the hurt go away./ssss

First they said you could get free food f you needed, then of course free housing was next, after that don't work and we will pay you, now the Gov complains that people are gaming the system. Well after decades of programs, the people have become players.

That’s true. Libs are parasites. I should have known. (Slap hand against the side of my head),p.My toe fungus is just like those taking free health care for their kids. Perfect analogy.
