ACORN sign-ups in Harris seem legitimate[14,000 rejected in Texas county!]

Nearly 40% of vote forms denied, but registrar sees no intentional foul as group draws fire nationwide

Although nearly 40 percent of the 35,000 voter registration applications submitted in Harris County by a community-organizing group accused of fraud in other states were rejected, there is no evidence of intentional manipulation of the voter rolls here, according to the county's voter registrar.

Elections officials in more than a dozen states are investigating reports that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, submitted fraudulent registrations. Republican leaders have called for a federal investigation, and GOP presidential nominee John McCain has been using connections between the group and his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, as fuel for attacks in the final weeks of the campaign.

About half of the 14,000 ACORN applications that were rejected in Harris County were missing required information such as the potential voter's address, date of birth and Texas driver's license number, said Paul Bettencourt, the county's voter registrar and tax assessor-collector. Another 3,800 applicants already were registered to vote.

Bettencourt said his staff checked the voting rolls and did not find any obviously phony registered voters. His bigger concern is the time his staff wastes processing duplicate applications. By comparison, only four duplicates were found among 4,000 applications submitted by the League of Women voters, and five have been found in 3,300 applications submitted by the Harris County Democratic Party.

"It keeps the engine going at a high rpm with no output," Bettencourt said of ACORN's high duplicate rate.

Group tries to verify data

Catherine Blue, state political director for Texas ACORN, said her organization does everything it can to make sure its employees help unregistered prospective voters fill out the applications thoroughly and properly. Each application is then reviewed by other staff members,...

I'm sorry - but after all the instances of mass voter registration fraud aided, abetted (and perpetrated) by ACORN, why is this organization not being sued, dismantled and forced to pay restitution for their crimes? At a MINIMUM, they should not be allowed to ever again “assist” anyone with registering to vote. What they are doing is a treasonable action, imo.

I agree - their defense is all about the race card, whereas their intent is to install socialism. I had heard of them before, but had no idea how blatant and outrageous this whole thing is until this election season and the mortgage crisis.

The problem with any evidence of voter fraud is that it needs to be caught, on the spot. Like what happened recently when a poll worker called out a guy for trying to vote in the name of a dead guy that he knew and attended his funeral the month before.
Since there is no ID requirements, they can’t match a person to a ballot so there is no proof that someone with the name Mickey M Mouse from 123 main street actually voted.

After the fact is too late IMO..

I wonder if this guy wants to buy some of my ocean front property here in Arizona?

I don't get why Harris County is not going after this aggressively since the County Clerk is a Republican. Her name is Beverly Kaufman. I would assume that she would call the shots on this.

Houston is a SANCTUARY CITY with a Democrat Mayor. City Council gives the city away. Taxes high and the City wants more money. 60% of Houston Independent School District - one of the largest in the nation - is Hispanic. Homes in wonderful quiet neighborhoods being torn down, multi-family, multi-car condos going up on narrow streets, MetroRail being expanded in an area where it was promised it wouldn’t be. Follow the money.

Pure bullshitte.

Complete lies, but the MSM sucks it up.

This group has 7,000 rejected incomplete applications, PLUS 3800 bogus (duplicate) applications for a total error rate of 77 percent. And THAT is just the error rate: it CAN'T INCLUDE the deliberate fraud registrations that are not found yet in the remaining 3200 applications.

“About half of the 14,000 ACORN applications that were rejected in Harris County were missing required information such as the potential voter's address, date of birth and Texas driver's license number, said Paul Bettencourt, the county's voter registrar and tax assessor-collector. And he actually thinks the American people will believe that??? These people on the left and the media who defend them are trying to start a war! Do they really think that half of the American public will just sit back and allow one party to steal an election with provable vote fraud and be happy about it.

Every party has their true believers. The left and the MSM has theirs already radicalized, they are in the process of doing the same to the right. The problem with that is the right has not been taught it is a good thing to throw temper tantrums in the street called civil disobedience they have grown up on the patriotism of defending this country and our freedoms from evil.

The MSM better figure it out quick and begin to choke down their blind democrat propaganda and become reporters or God help us all if the dems win this election with provable vote fraud hanging over this election.

Multiple registrations in a year is outright fraud and should be prosecutable.

If someone wants to appeal the charge (and claim that someone is engaging in identity theft by registering AS them), they should APPROVE that efforts are being made to prevent others from voting in their names.

RICO should be investigating ACORN for engaging in national criminal enterprise.

I’m embarassed by what Paul Bettencourt has said. Someone should call him up the next time he is on KSEV 700AM (Friday afternoon?)

No fraud intended?

He has in past elections cleared names from the rolls by cross referencing a bit of information about people who are registered.

And I think the purge in Harris County rolls occurs November 30th so even if someone committed fraud, they still get to vote one last time.
