Correction Appended

In the wake of an embezzlement scandal that rocked the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or Acorn, two of its board members are seeking a court order to force it to hand over financial documents.

They also are seeking to sever what they describe as continuing ties between Acorn and its founder, Wade Rathke, who resigned after it became public this summer that his brother had embezzled almost $1 million from the organization eight years ago. They contend that Mr. Rathke continues to direct the staff and expenditures.

“Acorn will suffer irreparable harm if the defendants are not restrained from contact with employees, expending and receiving, destroying or prohibiting the review of accounting and other data necessary to fulfill the fiduciary responsibility of the interim management committee,” the board members, Marcel Reid and Karen Inman, stated in the petition. Both serve on a committee established to lead Acorn.

Isn’t it amazing that a bunch of Marxist crooks and liars can get together, pronounce themselves representatives of “the community,” and have no trouble being recognized as “community group” by the ratmedia?

If Freepers organized to do something about an issue in their neighborhood or register voters, no way would the NYT call them a community group.

I want ACORN to “suffer irrepairable harm”. It is a criminal organization, and everybody connected with it should be jailed.

” Wade Rathke, who resigned after it became public this summer that his brother had embezzled almost $1 million from the organization eight years ago”

I find this $1 million eight years ago, because about eight years ago OBAMA raised almost $1 Million for his cousin in Kenya for his election effort.

Could this be the one and the same “ALMOST $1 Million” mentioned in both stories with the only common thread being a certain relationship to Senator Obama?

I don’t know. Still trying to find pieces of the puzzle. This is the correction down at the end of the article. Note Rathke became Chief Organizer of ACORN INT. 5 years ago. Needs deeper research.

Correction: September 12, 2008
An article on Wednesday about a lawsuit by two board members of the community-organizing group Acorn who are trying in part to sever the group’s ties with its founder, Wade Rathke, misstated the timing of Mr. Rathke’s becoming chief organizer of Acorn International, an affiliate. He assumed that title five years ago, not this year.

How do you bump this thread to either side or on top. FR kindergarden poster here.
