Some Christian voters lean toward Obama, study finds (Religious Left Alert)
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | October 9, 2008 | Ann Rogers

A new study suggests that young, white Christian voters have warmed toward big government while cooling toward social litmus tests.

"Younger Americans, including younger Americans of faith, are not the culture war generation," said Robert Jones, president of Public Religion Research, which did the survey.

"Young Catholics, mainline Protestants and evangelicals are bridging the divides that entrenched the older generation."

The study also suggests that while Sen. John McCain maintains the loyalty of weekly church attendees, Sen. Barack Obama has captured those who attend once or twice a month -- a group that split between President Bush and Sen. John Kerry in 2004.

Overall, it found Mr. Obama leading Mr. McCain 50 percent to 42 percent.

What the article doesn't tell you is that "Public Religion Research" and "Faith in Public Life" are both major left-wing tools.

I happen to be one of those young evangelicals. Believe me, there is little love for liberalism among us.

“Younger Americans, including younger Americans of faith, are not the culture war generation”

Whether they want to BELIEVE it or not, they ARE part of the culture war when they seek to REDEFINE centuries of religious teaching to say that homosexuality and abortion are not immoral.

Chinese menu Christianity. Pick one from column A, choose one from column B, with a substitute of Paganism on the side.

If you're only going to church once per month, you're not a serious Christian.

This study is completely bogus and the numbers cooked up to make a headline.

If these so called “Christians” lean towards the Obomination then they are NOT Christians.

Christ would NEVER approve of advocating abortion, much less INFANTCIDE! To be a Christian is to follow Christ as closely as you can. When voting for candidates, you have a CHOICE. Coveting the MONEY of others is wrong and murdering babies is wrong - that's a no brainer! There are no perfect mortal candidates but you don't have to vote for the most VILE of them.

http://www.faithinpubliclife.org/about/background.html

The 2004 elections brought a resurgence in religious advocacy for social and economic justice. Yet the Religious Right continued to dominate public discourse on issues of faith — primarily targeting issues of abortion and homosexuality — and virtually ignoring issues of justice and the common good. In December 2004, national religious leaders – including Jim Wallis, Rabbi David Saperstein, Rev. Jim Forbes, Rev. Bob Edgar, Sr. Catherine Pinkerton, Rev. C. Welton Gaddy, and Rev. Timothy McDonald — gathered in Washington, DC to confront the challenges facing the burgeoning social justice faith movement.

They are a 501c3 group. They cannot engage in political activism to get Obama elected. Pushing a biased poll gets awfully close to advocacy.

I happen to be one of those young evangelicals. Believe me, there is little love for liberalism among us.

I wish I could say the same. My cousin, who claims to be a Christian, attends a mega church in the San Fran CA. area, is a big bambi supporter. I've tried reaching him on how wrong it is to support a person who doesn't want to protect the most innocent in our society, but he won't hear any of it.

“Two-thirds of young Catholics preferred bigger, activist government”

The Left says that it is Christian to have more government social programs. So where is the ACLU blocking these Christian government reforms?

If you don’t follow that stripe of Christianity, you shouldn’t have to pay taxes to fund it in government.

“Young Catholics, mainline Protestants and evangelicals are bridging the divides that entrenched the older generation.”

Yes and GENUINE Christian KNOW this:

There will be a “falling away” from Christianity.

2Thes.2:3

[3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

And sound doctrine, will NOT be tolerated:

1Tim.1:10

[10] For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

2Tim.4:3

[3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

This is where it is at for Christianity. Genuine Christians KNOW the times we are living in.

When I see stupid articles like this I am sad but also encouraged that He will be coming soon to remove us from this liberal utopia. Let the liberals reap what they are sowing without genuine Christians on the earth.

These left wing “research” organizations are highlighting deception from all angles.

This is not what we have seen traveling the country seeing family and friends. The old line, now liberal Churches are dying and have congregations that look geriatric. The young people are flocking to the new big churches with programs and are 99% conservative. We have some old friends who have become liberal with their old churches and are upset with their kids who have turned conservative and go to the mega church.

Other polls have shown that voters view the Democratic Party as unfriendly to faith, but this one found that Mr. Obama is overcoming that. Forty-nine percent of voters viewed Mr. Obama as friendly toward religion, while 45 percent saw Mr. McCain that way.

49% viewed Mr. Obama as friendly towards religion. So long as you don't cling to it (on issues like homosexuality and abortion).

Young people are stupid. The socialism they pick up from their lefty profs is an easy concept when you have no money and are mooching off your parents.

One day those young people will be wondering why taxes are so high and there are none of those nice cushy white collar jobs that are their birthright. Enjoy it, cultists.

The big move to co-opt religion (specifically Christianity) got underway in 2004 and ramped up in 2006. Look at the keyword “Godgap” (or search God Gap on the internet). ReligiousLeft is another keyword to look back upon.

This is part of the effort to target those voters who “cling” to religion. They figure you won’t notice that Church teachings are changing before your eyes.

Indeed. If Democrats were really half as compassionate as they claim to be, they wouldn’t be supporting infanticide.

It isn’t just abortion. The Bible, especially the OT, is strongly against corruption in government, be it in 1 and 2 Kings, the Psalms, Proverbs, or whatever. Apparently God considers this a major problem. Does your cousin realize that 0bama came to power threw the most corrupt political machine in the country? Does your cousin realize that Chicago doesn’t even have democratic elections anymore, but rather the Dems pick the candidates and the “community organizers” deliver the votes via fraud? Does your cousin realize, for instance, that in a recent Cook County board election where a Republican was possibly going to get a seat for the first time since before ducks could fly, the Democrat machine withheld ballots and pencils to precincts that tended to be more GOP friendly? Does your cousin realize that 0bama’s friend Gov. Rod Blagojevich is a hair’s breadth from being indicted, or that it is an open secrt in Chicago that Richard Daley is a complete crook in bed with the mafia?
