FBI Warns of Potential Terror Attacks

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security today issued an analytical "note" to U.S. law-enforcement officials cautioning that al-Qaida terrorists have in the past expressed interest in attacking public buildings using a dozen suicide bombers each carrying 20 kilograms of explosives.

Authors with the U.S. Office of Intelligence and Analysis added that they have "no credible or specific information that terrorists are planning operations against public buildings in the United States." The FBI and DHS analysts said they were releasing the note because "it is important for local authorities and building owners and operators to be aware of potential attack tactics."

According to the note obtained by NBC News, a "recently discovered audio recording of al-Qa‘ida training sessions conducted several years ago provides instruction to potential suicide terrorists on seizing a publicly accessible building and damaging or destroying it with explosive charges." Insurgents use children as human shields

KABUL, Afghanistan — Insurgents used two Afghan children as shields while they attempted to emplace IEDs in a road in Farah province Oct. 18.

U.S. Marines with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment were conducting counter IED operations along a route in Golestan to ensure the safe passage of civilian traffic and ground convoys when they observed four insurgents attempting to emplace an IED in the road.

Initially the Marines observed four adults and two children in a truck laden with burlap sacks and shovels. The adults began digging holes. Once the burlap sacks were removed from the truck and opened, the Marines were able to see IED materiel in the sacks and that the holes being dug in the road were for IEDs.

Marine snipers shot two of the positively identified insurgents as they emplaced an IED. After the initial shots were fired, the other two insurgents grabbed the two children they had brought with them and held them in front of them to use them as shields.

The Marines waited until the children were let go and ran away before snipers shot the remaining two insurgents. The children fled in the direction of a mosque and were unharmed.

“We know that the insurgents often display a blatant disregard for civilian life. They frequently attempt to exploit our adherence to the rule of law. Unfortunately for them, our Marines are well trained in positively identifying targets before engaging them,” said Colonel Peter Petronzio, commanding officer for the Interim Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan.

“Iraqi forces detain 180 “suspects” during Basrah raids”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Iraqi security forces conducted a massive sweep throughout Basrah province Tuesday. Iraqi Army and police units detained 180 “suspects,” including a Pakistani national, and found several large weapons caches, during the operations.

Forty-four suspected insurgents were detained, including a Pakistani man, while entering Iraq “illegally through Safwan border road, 60 km west [of] Basrah,” the Basrah media office told Voices of Iraq. Operations outside of Basrah netted additional 136 isuspects.

The Pakistani man was likely an al Qaeda operative. Safwan is in southeastern Basrah, right on the border with Kuwait. While most al Qaeda operatives pass through Syria or Iran, the transit through Kuwait, while uncommon, does occur.

Al Qaeda has an active support network in Kuwait.”

INCREASING VIOLENCE IN SRI LANKA
U.S. Embassy Colombo released the following Warden Message on October 28:

On October 28, 2008, from approximately 10:30 PM until 11:30 PM, the LTTE conducted air raids on the Sri Lanka Army base at Tallady in Mannar and on the Kelanitissa Power Plant just north of Colombo. The raids caused damage to property and one known death at the Kelanitissa Power Plant; two injuries have been reported from the raids.

During last night’s incidents in Colombo and Mannar, the Sri Lanka government cut power to Colombo as a precautionary measure and used anti-aircraft fire against the LTTE aircraft. The US Embassy advises citizens to remain indoors when anti-aircraft weapons are in use due to the risk of injury from falling shrapnel or bullets.

As always, the Embassy reminds American citizens to continue to be aware of their surroundings and vigilant about their personal security. Americans are advised to be on alert if visiting government facilities and public venues. Americans should also continue to avoid military installations, government and military convoys traveling on the roads and, where possible, government buildings, as they have in the past been targets for LTTE violence. There are likely to be traffic disruptions as Sri Lankan security forces increase their security checks. Americans are again reminded to cooperate fully with Sri Lankan security forces as they implement increased security measures.

“Al Qaeda Document: Zarqawi Came to Iraq Before The War”

On February 17 2008, Al-Ekhlaas which is the largest terrorist forum on the internet published an Al Qaeda document that talks about the life of Abou Musaab Al Zarqawi and indicates that Zarqawi came to Iraq before the war to prepare the terrorist insurgency against the US troops. According to the document Zarqawi arrived to the Sunni areas in central Iraq. This document was written by one of Al Qaeda top leaders called “Saif Al Adel”.There were many accounts about Zarqawi presence in Iraq before the war in particular in Northern Iraq with “Ansar Al Islam” an active Al Qaeda affiliated terrorist group that was present in the Kurdish areas of Iraq long before the war started. The document also proves that Ansar Al Islam helped Al Qaeda members establish themselves in Iraq before the war started.The author of the document wrote that there were no relations between Saddam regime and Al Qaeda but this does not negate at all the most important fact that Al Qaeda was in Iraq before the war for the sole purpose of preparing for its most important front to fight the U.S and it is now in Iraq where Al Qaeda is suffering its most crushing defeat since its existence.It is very important to note that despite the author of the document denial of a relationship between Saddam regime and Al Qaeda it does not mean that Saddam regime was not aware of Al Qaeda presence in Iraq. In fact the documents clearly points out that Zarqawi went to the Sunni areas in Central Iraq before the war and these areas were totally controlled and loyal to Saddam regime and it very hard to imagine that Zarqawi stayed and prepared his terrorist sleepers cells in these Sunni areas without the approval of Saddam regime.

Citizen’s tip leads NP to weapons cache
Multi-National Division-Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD – Acting on a citizen tip, National Police officers seized a munitions cache in eastern Baghdad Oct. 28.

Policemen from 1st Battalion, 8th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, seized the cache in the Shawra Wa Um Jidir area of the New Baghdad district in eastern Baghdad, which consisted to three 81 mm mortar rounds, three 60 mm mortar rounds, four rocket-propelled grenade launchers, five RPG warheads, three RPG fuse assemblies and approximately 400 rounds of 7.62 ammunition and a Dragonov sniper rifle.

“We commend the brave and patriotic Baghdad citizen, who was responsible for taking these weapons out of the hands of criminals, who would use them to attack innocent Iraqi civilians and security forces,” said Maj. Joey Sullinger, a spokesperson for 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light). “Cooperation such as this between citizens and professional, dedicated Iraqi Security Forces sends a clear and concise message to criminals that they have no place in the future of Iraq.”

ISF captures 2 suspected terrorists in northern Iraq
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BALAD, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces captures two suspected terrorists in separate operations in northern Iraq Oct. 28.

In an operation in Khatoon, Baqubah Special Weapons and Tactics captured a suspected al Qaeda in Iraq cell leader. The individual is said to be responsible for planning and coordinating attacks against ISF. He is also suspected of providing financial backing, logistical support, and safe haven for AQI fighters in Khatoon.

In a separate operation in Salamiyah, approximately 24 km southeast of Mosul, Iraqi Special Operations Forces arrested a suspected leader of an Islamic State of Iraq cell responsible for murdering many Iraqi Police in Mosul. The suspect is reportedly in command of insurgents in the village.

“These operations show the ability of Iraqi Security Forces to repeatedly capture terrorists who undermine the security of Iraq,” said Lt. Col. Neil Harper, Multi-National Corps-Iraq spokesperson.

Coalition forces capture four wanted men, detain four more suspects

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces further debilitated al-Qaeda in Iraq networks during operations Wednesday and Thursday, capturing four wanted men and detaining four additional suspects.

Forces in Mosul targeted AQI’s communication lines Wednesday night. A wanted man believed to be an AQI courier associated with multiple regional leaders was captured along with three suspects during the operation.

Thursday in As Sadiyah, about 111 km northeast of Baghdad, Coalition forces captured a wanted man assessed to be associated with AQI weapons and foreign terrorist facilitation networks in the region. One additional suspect was detained for further questioning.

Two more wanted men were captured by forces operating in Baghdad Thursday. One of the men, believed to be an AQI financier, surrendered himself to Coalition forces and then turned in his associate.

“Iranian Nuke Scientist: Weekend Quake was a Nuclear Test”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “(IsraelNN.com) A weekend 5.0 Richter earthquake in Iran was actually a nuclear bomb test, says an Iranian nuclear scientist claiming to be working on the project.

The report is an Israel Insider exclusive.

This past Saturday night, southern Iran experienced what was reported as a significant earthquake - a seismic event measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was just north of the strategic Straits of Hormuz, which separates Iran from Abu Dhabi and Oman and which is the gateway to the Persian Gulf.

The report quotes an Iranian nuclear scientist who claims to be working in uranium enrichment for the project, and who said that the “quake” was acutally an undergound nuclear bomb test.

Israel Insider adds that the test/quake was actually the second in a series. Nine days ago, a 4.8 Richter scale event occurred, with its epicenter only five kilometers away from the weekend tremor.

The Israel Insider source reports that two nuclear rockets are currently ready - and are intended for use against Israel in the coming months.”
