Fleet Week 2008 Press Releases

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Sept. 2, 2008 -- Fleet week is proud to announce that the Navy’s Blue Angels will be returning to the skies of San Francisco. Fleet week makes its 28th annual appearance, October 9-14, 2008 -- attracting an estimated one million spectators along the San Francisco waterfront.

The show will be bigger and better this year with the Canadian Snowbirds joining the Blue Angels. The Snowbirds’ performance features nine jets showcasing remarkable tactical aviation. Their show is both thrilling and beautiful with more than 50 different formations.

Inaugurated in 1981, this popular annual event brings together U.S. Navy, Marines Corps and Coast Guard forces for a week-long celebration in the water and skies -- highlighted by a two-day air show over the weekend. The weekend lineup will also include the U.S. F-16 Viper West and Patriot jet demonstration teams and the United States Air Force’s newest fighter aircraft, the F-22A Raptor A-10 and the U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter.

This year’s lineup will also include two father and son pilots. Team Oracles, Sean Tucker, one of the country’s finest civilian aerobatic pilots will be performing and he’ll be joined by the “Collaborators” his son, Eric W. D. Tucker and two other outstanding aerobatic pilots. The second father and son team is John Piggott who will be flying a Sukhoi Su-29 known as the “Russian Sukhoi” immediately prior to his son, Capt. Russ Piggott of the Air Force F-16 Viper West Demo team. Joining the aerobatic show will be Geico’s Tim Weber and Lucas Oil’s Mike Wiskus who will both be making their first appearance at Fleet week.

A variety of family-oriented special events will be staged along the waterfront. The Marina Green will have an entertainment area featuring exhibits including one from Saab. Aquatic Park Fisherman’s Wharf and PIER 39 will also have events and viewing areas.

The event will be live on the radio, listeners can tune into KSFO 560 on Saturday and Sunday.

Why does the U.S. Navy continue to grace this obnoxious, hostile city with its presence every year with Fleet Week?

Why does the navy even waste their time giving good publicity and attracting tourist dollars to that scumhole?

Ya I wondered the same thing, since San Francisco is so hostile to the military.

Remember there was a supervisor, or some elected official in San Francisco, who once said that America doesn’t need a military force. He said that in case of terror attack or invasion, that local police departments around the country would defend us.

Any chance those birds could be armed, just for this occasion? Just one small run...

Nah, wouldn't want to take out the great restaurants.

I will be attending. Gonna ride the ferry (no jokes please!) with my bike. Bicycle is the way to go down there. No parking problems and you can cover a lot of ground. Festivities will extend from the Bay Bridge all the way to the Marina Green. And I won’t be spending any of my $$ while there.

Maybe they think they can change the minds of morons like Katha Pollitt (she’s the idiot suffering from BDS who wouldn’t let her daughter fly the Stars & Stripes after 9/11 - if you do a search on her, you’ll find she’s busy being anti-American).

Personally, I think they’re doing San Francisco a favor by pushing all the bums out. Maybe the citizens should pay them instaed of taking their (US military personnel) money.

What exactly are you saying about Savage? He's cleared that up, he's not gay.

I’m taking a 2 master up to it. I’ll be a guest of my relatives. Looking forward to it, and a stroll down the waterfront for some dungeness crab or a ride to Grant St. for some good Chinese food.

Has the Commie country of Berkley given permission for them to enter their airspace?

While the Blue Angels are hands-down my favorite demo team, I really do enjoy watching the Snowbirds. That little trainer they use (still?) is a nimble little sucker, and there’s some fun things they can do with nine planes that of course you just can’t do with four (or six) planes.

Love the F-18. Glad they switched to that. It’s too bad the Navy won’t be picking up the F-22... of course that’s pretty spendy... but just think how cool of a show they could put on... :-)
