Brent Bozell III: Savaging Sarah Palin
townhall.com ^ | September 03, 2008 | Brent Bozell III

When MSNBC's Chris Matthews suggested in Denver that Barack Obama earned his present elevation in American politics, unlike "showcase appointments" like Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, he reminded the world of the peculiarity of liberalism. John McCain's selection of Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate underlined it. Liberals find no joy when Republicans select women or minorities for top positions. They are all fraudulent traitors to their own apparent group interests. Conservative blacks aren't really black. Conservative Latinos aren't really Latino. Now, conservative women are somehow not really women.

Newsweek's Eleanor Clift spoke for her colleagues on the Palin selection: "If the media reaction is anything, it's been literally laughter in many places ... In very, very many newsrooms."

This principle -- that hell hath no fury like a liberal who's been insulted by a conservative not sticking to white male appointments -- explains why President Bush successfully placed two white men on the Supreme Court. Only picking Harriet Miers was outrageous (although her capacity for the job was clearly an issue). Bush saw how upset the Left became when Clarence Thomas was nominated. John McCain could have played safe. He chose to mix things up and pick a woman who matched his tendency to mix things up.

That decision led inexorably to a big, fat Exhibit A of media bias. The media's treatment of Palin was nothing like their approval for Joe Biden, Obama's running mate, the week before. The Washington Post called the Biden selection an "infusion of experience and aggressiveness," and he was "a sharp-witted and energetic foreign policy expert." There was no mention that Biden was a liberal, or that while National Journal found Obama to be the most liberal senator in 2007, Biden came in close behind in third place.

"John McCain made a bold choice in not merely picking a woman, but picking a pro-life woman courageous enough to put her motherhood where her mouth is. Now the media want him to pay dearly for it. The idea that they would lecture anyone else about rumor-mongering or "Swift-boating" ought to be laughed off the public stage."

“Obama earned his present elevation in American politics”

So you can only earn your place if you’re elected, not if you’re appointed. I guess that means everyone who has ever served at the pleasure of the president is a fraud.

“If the media reaction is anything, it’s been literally laughter”

Did they laugh when Obama began his campaign? Probably not. I’ll concede that Obama won his nomination fair and square. But if he was held to the standards that Palin is held to now, he would not have had a chance to be acclaimed by the voters. I say, “Let the voters decide if Palin is laughable.”

Obama’s campaign promise to “UNITE” the country.....is proving to be another lie...

His campaign and HIS supporters are opening wounds and creating divisions that will NEVER be healed in our lifetime..

This time - they have gone far too far.....they have crossed the bridge too far and must now be distrusted and removed from any position of trust or power.....

They don’t deserve trust or power.....

UNITE = UNTIE. All the letters are there, if we’re smart enough to see them.

Eleanor Clift works for Newsweek. So does Markos Moulitsas, the boy who helped Obama propagate the Palin baby smear. I’m not really interested in her opinion about anything.

If Oprah had not taken up Obama’s cause, he might not have enjoyed such a rise in the public eye. Let’s be honest about that. He owes a lot to Oprah. And I’m no Oprah fan, just stating the obvious.

“Tell that to the democrats in Michigan and Florida.”

As far as I know, the party had its rules, and the organizers in Florida and Michigan knew ahead of time. Let the Democrats have their rules.

That being said, Obama’s ability to win a general election is far from proven.

Eleanor Clift spoke for her colleagues on the Palin selection: "If the media reaction is anything, it's been literally laughter in many places ... In very, very many newsrooms."

That laughter will turn to frowns when they see the post-convention polls #s, and will turn to tears in November.

Then why are RATS scared ^&!#less of Palin?

Governor Palin has an 80% approval rating in Alaska. The voters *there* don't find her laughable at all, and the RATS know it. They're scared "squatless" *because* the US voter isn't going to find her laughable either...

Including a guy named Alexander Hamilton and another one named George Marshall.

Wait till the country hears her talk about oil. She may not have gone to Harvard but she has been in charge of the commission that monitors 20% of the domestic production in the United States and has just signed a deal with the majors that greatly increases Alaska’s share of the production and proposes a huge new gas pipe line to the Lower 48. If she doesn’t get elected, Kuwait should hire her.

Tell that to the democrats in Michigan and Florida.

They deliberately violated their national party rules. They were fortunate to have their delegations seated at all. I'd tell them to follow the rules next time.

hmmm, eleanor clift, former secretary, married an actor which got her career jump started, now a whiney liberal staple of the mcglaughlin farce.

sarah palin, self-made woman, married a blue collar guy, raising 5 kids and still has time to govern a state.

i know who i’d trust to run the country.
