Mexican Peppers Posed Problem Before Outbreak

FRESNO, Calif. Federal inspectors at U.S. border crossings repeatedly turned back filthy, disease-ridden shipments of peppers from Mexico in the months before a salmonella outbreak that sickened 1,400 people was finally traced to Mexican chilies.
Yet no larger action was taken. Food and Drug Administration officials insisted as recently as last week that they were surprised by the outbreak because Mexican peppers had not been spotted as a problem before.
But an Associated Press analysis of FDA records found that peppers and chilies were consistently the top Mexican crop rejected by border inspectors for the last year.

Kind of a new twist to the ‘blame America first’ approach.

This can be fixed with more money (reads TAXES) and bigger government, (reads more TAXES) or ... we can start force feeding all FDA empoyees tainted food until they explode.

WHY THE HELL are we importing peppers from Mexico? Ya’ can grow the damned things on a sidewalk, and Americans have plenty of acreage to grow exports to Mexico, for cryin’ out loud. Left to their own resources, they will eventually poison themselves into extinction.

If you look long enough and hard enough you can find anything...the problem I see is every spring for the past several years the MSM has come out with a story that some produce is making us sick...then more people start saying they are sick(looking for money) . the real problem here is the MSM wanting to make a headline. not the produce, we've been eating it for years and not getting sick.

The US government did every damned thing they could to keep the blame off an unsanitary, filth-ridden Mexican crop produced by a people who have no reluctance to void themselves all over the produce knowing it’s destined for US consumers, but the FedGov just couldn’t keep it under wraps forever.
For that, the US government is guilty of aiding a sort of germ warfare to be waged upon its own citizenry by a foreign invader and doesn’t do crap about it. The FedGov does nothing to Mexico for poisoning our people, but rushs with sanctions against China for poisoning pet food. Go figure that one....

I used to not pay attention to where my produce came from, but now, when I shop, I avoid ANY produce from south of the border. If I have to do without peppers, so be it.
