Media Excuses For Edwards Border On Sick
IBD Editorials ^ | August 13, 2008 | L. BRENT BOZELL

You know some in the liberal media have simply lost touch with reality when the headline reads "John Edwards Cheats on Wife With Cancer" and they ask with great detachment whether he'll be able to run for office again soon.

Their morality is so bizarre that they showed more outrage at John McCain featuring a picture of Paris Hilton in a commercial for two eye-blinks than for Edwards catting around on a dying spouse.

For months (and more hotly in the last two weeks), the National Enquirer has been trickling out the goods they collected on John Edwards having an affair and possibly a love child with campaign aide Rielle Hunter, staking out Edwards in a California hotel — and how he hid in the bathroom to avoid them.

There's a quick campaign ad on the two parties in a nutshell. Republican George Bush took on Osama bin Laden and took out Saddam Hussein. Democrat John Edwards hides in a bathroom from the tabloids.

Throughout this time, the very same media that almost immediately spread unproven trash on McCain's alleged "romantic" relationship with lobbyist Vicki Iseman because the source was the allegedly professional New York Times now remained as quiet as a cabin full of Carthusian monks.

Only when everyone was familiar with the story, thanks to the New Media, and when Edwards was forced to confess did the networks break their obedient silence.

Brent Bozell is amazing. He is as passionate about his mission as Wayne LaPierre (of the NRA) is about his.

Also, like LaPierre, he is a remarkably good writer and polemicist.

The MSM attacks those on the right who are weak, and it ignores those on the right who are strong. There are few whom the MSM ignores more studiously than Brent Bozell.

Or Mark Foley's dirty Internet messages to congressional pages?

Foley was a Dem before he was a RINO. The media conveniently likes to ignore this fact, as well. You can take the boy out of the Democrat Party, but he'll still chase boys regardless of party affiliation.

They went after Tom Delay pretty hard, and I wouldn't say he was weak. We need more Brent Bozell's, though.

Edwards, the prince of two Americas.

He was right, half of Americans don't know who their Father is.

The sooner this story goes away the better . None of it is sticking to Obambi . Rats keep flipping it to bring up McCain's past and good hearted buffoons like Hannity excuse McCain's past because he was a POW . Hannity and Colmes have a panel on Edwards right after having Rudy and Newt as guests . Good grief . Save us from our friends at Fox .

wouldn't it be funny if the Obama people helped subsidize Edwards girlfriend and love child, to keep Edwards in to hurt Hillary?

When we bring back “the fairness doctrine” it won’t cover our friends in the media.

You have a nice day.

I would like to know whether Edward’s hush money came out of his campaign funds. If so, it would seem illegal.

Oreily did not cover for any BS “integrity”.

OReily did not cover the story because OReily had his own sex scandal (other skeletons perhaps?) and he did not want to have journalists focusing on his scandals.

This is like Ted Kennedy being on the Anita Hill senatorial testamony regarding sexual harassment.

“But the Breck Girl wants a gold star for the fact that he sent his marriage into remission when his wife was in remission. That’s special.

“It isn’t like we didn’t know that the son of a millworker was a little enraptured by himself, radiating self-love from his smile and his man-in-a-hurry airs and the notorious $800 bill for a pair of haircuts and his two-minute YouTube hair primping to the tune of “I Feel Pretty.”

In the Hunter (his mistress) video titled “Plane Truths,” Edwards is relaxing on his plane, telling the out-of-frame director: “I’ve come to the personal conclusion that I actually want the country to see who I am, who I really am, but I don’t know what the result of that will be. But for me personally, I’d rather be successful or unsuccessful based on who I really am, not based on some plastic Ken doll that you put up in front of audiences.” Ken couldn’t have said it better.

Back in 2002, Edwards sent me a Ken doll dressed in bathing trunks, Rio de Janeiro Ken, with a teasing note, because he didn’t like my reference to him as a Ken doll in a column.
In retrospect, the comparison was not fair — to Ken. “

“”Mr. Edwards, 55, issued his statement after admitting to the affair in a segment taped for “Nightline” on ABC that was broadcast Friday night. The ABC News invesMr. Edwards had denied the tabloid reports for months, and the major television networks and newspapers had not reported the accusations. But an Enquirer report that Mr. Edwards had met with Ms. Hunter and the baby last month in a hotel room in Beverly Hills, Calif., had given the story new life, prompting newspapers in North Carolina to start to report details, and the story was being widely circulated on the Internet.

The intense public relations effort to contain the story was finally diverted into minimizing its impact — Mr. Edwards called the affair “a liaison.” His admission came on a Friday, coinciding with the start of the Olympics, and was followed up with calls to friendly reporters like Bob Schieffer of CBS News. Asked about the timing of his statement, Mr. Edwards told Mr. Schieffer that he was being “dogged by tabloids” and that they would not let up until he had addressed the matter.

tigation followed months of reports by The National Enquirer, which first reported in October that Mr. Edwards had been involved with Rielle Hunter, a former videographer for his presidential campaign.

Mr. Edwards denied making any payments to cover up the affair but told “Nightline” that others might have made payments to Ms. Hunter on his behalf without his knowledge.
A longtime financial backer of Mr. Edwards’s campaigns, Fred Baron, told The Dallas Morning News on Friday that he had made payments to Ms. Hunter to get her “out of North Carolina” and “into a stable place.” She and her baby moved into a $3 million house in Santa Barbara, Calif.

David Perel, editor of The Enquirer, said on CNN that money was also “being funneled” to a former aide to Mr. Edwards, Andrew Young, who has said that he was the father of the baby. Mr. Perel said that Mr. Young lived in a $5.4 million house, also in Santa Barbara, “with no visible means of support.”

Mr. Edwards’s political career is almost certainly over, but it probably was over even before his revelations. As a vice-presidential nominee in 2004, he failed to carry his home state, and his most recent presidential campaign did not live up to its promise.”

This says it all...

What did Larry Craig’s shoe placement in an airport bathroom in 2007 have to do with the Republican Party as a whole? The media treated that story as a much larger scoop than John Edwards cheating on the wife dying of cancer. It was a story that led the news (certainly on Chuck Todd’s NBC) for days and days. Here’s Matt Lauer on day one: “Can the right wing withstand yet another scandal involving one of its own?”

The Mark Foley scandal is going to be the backbreaker of this election season for the Republicans, according to Chuck Todd, the editor-in-chief of Hotline, a daily Internet news briefing of politics and campaigns. The Republican side is simply not going to vote as much, he said in a discussion at the Boston University Washington Center on Friday, Oct. 6.

Is Elizabeth Edwards actually DYING? I don’t think so...we don’t need dramatics to make our point.

“The recurrence in a bone means that the cancer is “no longer curable,” John Edwards said.

The cancer had spread into her breast bone. She has stage 4 cancer which is not curable.

I'd say he was somewhat weakened after Ronnie Earle indicted him on trumped-up BS charges that, one of which has been thrown out, and the rest are sitting in legal limbo.

Mr. Earle, by the way, once filed a lawsuit against himself, which lawsuit he simultaneously won and lost.
