GOP Revolt

There is something especially inspiring in watching democracy in action. Today, as has been the case all week, Republican Members of Congress took to the House floor to stand up for Americans who need relief from rising energy costs.

Sadly, what we’ve also seen this week is democratic inaction. When Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Congress skipped town last week, adjourning before Republican Members had a chance to speak about their energy plan on the House floor, they walked out on Congress and essentially walked out on the needs of the American people.

I cannot commend the Republican House Members enough for staying in town this week, while they, too, could be enjoying their August recess and spending time in their districts with their families. This is a prime example of the Republican Party taking the initiative for real change.

American energy exploration, and especially offshore drilling, is a major component of energy independence and lower energy costs. From coast to coast, citizens are turning in favor of this in record numbers; even Speaker Pelosi’s constituents. Why, then, is the majority of our nation’s legislative body turning their backs to the needs of Americans? Isn’t the “People’s House” tasked with passing legislation for the betterment of the country?

John McCain also has asked his opponent to rally Congressional Democrats to return to the chamber for a vote on the comprehensive energy bill, but Barack Obama and Speaker Pelosi would rather take vacations. I hope Obama notices the gas prices in Hawaii, where he is vacationing this week. They’re among the highest in the country, and if America follows his energy plan, they’re certain to continue to rise while our dependence on foreign oil increases as well.

With so much overwhelming support for the American Energy Act across the country, it’s unfathomable why it falls on deaf ears in the Democrat Congress.

House Republican Leader John Boehner said it best today when speaking with a reporter: “You cannot thwart the will of the American people. Our system of government doesn’t allow it.”

“When people speak up, this place responds,” he said.

Millions of Americans are struggling to afford skyrocketing gas prices. The Republican Members of Congress are trying to help; the Democrats are not.

I am confident this issue will remain on voters’ minds in November, when the decision between voting for government action or government inaction couldn’t be more important.

That's a really disappointing development. I listened to Senator Chambliss on Rush's show, and was really stunned to see a once-great guy like Chambliss get sucked into this “we need to do something” mindset...that is “do something” as opposed to doing the “right thing.”

What ever happened to doing the “right thing,” Senator?

Frankly, I'm not interested in getting along with the Left. It's about time you “got some nuts” and worked to defeat those bastards, or we'll find someone who will.

Forget gas prices, fuel oil is going to kill families this winter. If the Republicans don’t win this, there are going to be a lot of cold people come December.

[But over in the senate the Republicans are getting stabbed in the back...........]

The ‘gang of ten’ needs to become the ‘gang of gone’. Lindsey Graham is a total POS.

Yeah, stabbed in the back by their fellow Republicans! Unbelievable.

Get used to it too. This is exactly the kind of guy we’ve managed to nominate.

I'm fed up with the "gangs" in Congress. I don't like a small group of people gathering to make deals like this. There is too much compromise in these and not enough fighting for OUR sides values. I was shocked to see Chambliss and Thune as two of this group. They should be doing the same thing in the Senate that the Reps are doing in the House.

We must win our effort on Drilling here, drilling now as it would not only reduce our fuel costs, enhance our National Security, overall lead to repair of our economy, but could also lead to the battle against one of not only America’s most egregious of enemies, but the World’s, the all powerful, out of control Environmentalists.

A war that requires winning now.

This lot, The Environmentalists is one of the Democrats largest supporting entities, and the Democrats are aware.

Much more is at stake than fuel costs.

Drill Here, Drill NOW.

Democrats plan to undermine public confidence in President George W. Bush by challenging his credibility and raising doubts about America, sources within the party tell Capitol Hill Blue.

A multi-pronged attack against Republicans and the President will focus not only on economic issues, but question American values, raise doubts about how this country is viewed by other nations and question the patriotism of Bush and his party

"Drill Here, Drill NOW."

I just went shopping for next week's needs. Have you noticed the prices on food when you go shopping? It's all trucked in and diesel fuel costs a lot now.

Gingrich is directly in tune with the U.S. people this time for the Republicans in the House to shut down the government on this single obvious issue to everyone.

I don't know if you know anybody in our military. I do and I was. Something is going to happen to Iran. They have declared war on Israel blatently. It will happen after the Israeli election and our election while Bush has 2 months left.

When you see battleships and aircraft carriers going through Gibralter toward the eastern Med. around the end of October, there is going to be death on a massive scale.

There are 40,000 missiles aimed at Israel now. The country that launches them will have nothing left but burning cities and big holes in the gound and starving people.

there are going to be a lot of cold people come December.

The only people who will be affected are middle-class families who vote Republican. The rich can afford heating oil and the poor will receive gov't subsidies.

Late to the party—I’m still catching up from Sunday—but wonder what Obama’s answer is to this? Surely he has a solution that will provide every American family with a full tank of oil thru the winter. Let’s hear it!
