Politics reared its ugly head at the Olympic Games once more on Saturday after an Iranian swimmer refused to compete alongside Israeli Tom Be'eri.
Mohammad Alirezaei was due to race against Be'eri in the fourth heat of the 100 meter breaststroke, but pulled out, apparently under the orders of the chiefs of the Iranian delegation.
"This isn't the first time this has happened and it doesn't surprise me anymore," Olympic Committee of Israel General Secretary Efraim Zinger told The Jerusalem Post. "Politics takes precedence over sport with the Iranians and the Olympic spirit is as far from them as east is far from west.
"My heart goes out to the Iranian athletes. In the Athens Olympics one of their sportsmen, who was a gold medal favorite, had to pull out because he was drawn against an Israeli.
"There's no place for this kind of behavior in the Olympic movement and it's a shame it continues."
In a superb opening day of racing for Israel's swimmers, which was sadly marred, the delegation's three competitors set two Israeli records and one personal best.

I have a neighbor in her early 70’s who has been a Christian for most of her life. She truly believes that she will live to see Jesus return. I pray that she is right because the world NEEDS him back!

This Country has been well protected but with that comes complacency among its population. Our young people are at this point and do not understand the world. Very dangerous indeed.

You left off another possibility...that is, for some reason they want us to think they are a bunch of Armageddon-seeking fanatics. For instance, Russia took full advantage of the threat of nuclear war to prevent proxy wars from turning into larger wars, not to mention using this threat to extract concessions from the West on a variety of geopolitical issues. North Korea does the same thing. I have a feeling that Iran, who, let’s face it, is allied with Russia, N. Korea and Red China, may be playing the same type of game. The question, given this alternative scenario, is what are they trying to maneuver us into doing???

Still, we must be very careful about labeling this or that “The Last Days Generation.” To be sure, there will be a last, last days generation.
