Homespun Terrorists

Terrorism: The time comes in every fringe group's existence when it must decide to stay legitimate and obey the law or leap into violence and terrorism. The animal rights movement seems to have chosen the latter.

Make no mistake: The terrorism committed by the animal rights movement and some extreme environmental groups is real. Like all terrorists, they use force, threats and destruction of property to intimidate people into submission.

Having lost the debate in the marketplace of ideas, they choose instead to terrorize. As Jerry Vlasak, a spokesman for the Animal Liberation Front, told the AP, "If you had to hurt somebody or intimidate them or kill them, it would be morally justifiable."

This threat couldn't be clearer. These homegrown militants deserve to be treated by the law as more than misguided activists. This was driven home again last weekend when animal rights activists firebombed two scientists at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

The bombs — which investigators called "Molotov cocktails on steroids" — went off within minutes of each other, and were capable of killing their targets. These weren't innocent pranks.

The attacks were perhaps inevitable, given that pamphlets bearing the names and addresses of UC Santa Cruz animal researchers had been left in a local cafe, presumably for any nut case to pick up and act upon. Well, someone did.

One bomb exploded and burned up a car parked outside a researcher's home. The other blew up at another researcher's home, forcing him, his wife and his two children to flee. The researcher was injured, and his house sustained heavy damage.

“As Jerry Vlasak, a spokesman for the Animal Liberation Front, told the AP, “If you had to hurt somebody or intimidate them or kill them, it would be morally justifiable.””

I thought Vlasak started the “Pickle Liberation Front”, but I may have him confused with someone else.

If you're waiting for the "War on Terror" to be brought home to these brats, rather than your grandma at the airport, you need to find something else to do.

Grandma can be found and pay fines.

Will it take body bags for our politicians and the media to wake up?

They very nearly needed body gags this time. These folks are Luddites. Gaea is their goddess and they are very "spiritual" or at least my lunatic relatives are. While my insane branch of the family relations didn't and wouldn't bomb anyone, their beliefs are a cult like quasi-religion. All they need is a "Mohammad".

Well, he just likes to "liberate" his pickle in front of people.

Seriously, these people are deranged and should be jailed.
