Tyson Foods: Buh-Bye, Labor Day, Hello, Eid Al-Fitr; (Buh-Bye, America, Too)
debbieschlussel.com ^ | August 4, 2008 | Debbie Schlussel

Posted on 08/04/2008 10:32:24 AM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Well, folks, here it is--the beginning (or maybe the middle) of the end of America as we know it. Tyson Foods is now ending employees' paid day off for Labor Day and, instead, giving 'em the paid day off for the Muslim festival, Eid Al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. It is the most important holiday in Islam.

It will be interesting to see how Tyson calculates which day it is, since Muslims are never really sure on which day or two it falls until right before--and since Shi'ites and Sunnis frequently feud about when it falls.

Since I keep kosher, I don't eat Tyson Foods products anyway, but I call on you my readers to boycott the company. It's absurd to replace labor day with the holiday of those bent on our destruction. Any company that does that doesn't deserve your business. (It, frankly, doesn't deserve your business even without this, because as I've noted on this site, Tyson Foods employs illegal aliens and trades with Iran, helping sustain the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regime.)

tysonfoods.jpgislamiccrescent.jpg

Tyson Foods . . . the Official Olympic Sponsor of IslamoFascism:

Workers at Tyson Foods' poultry processing plant in Shelbyville [Tennessee] will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in the fall.

A recent press release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) stated that a new contract at the Shelbyville facility "implements a new holiday to accommodate the ... Muslim workers at the plant."

The RWDSU stated that "the five-year contract creates an additional paid holiday, Iidal Fitil, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan."

Is there any way to find out just how many muslims Tyson employs? And how many of other religions/ethnicities? Do they even keep tabs on that sort of thing?

In one of the many articles about this, the ratio was stated as 700 (mostly Somali) muslims in a workforce of 1200.

I get

New Years Day
Memorial Day
July 4
Labor Day
Thanksgiving - 2 days
Christmas - 2 days
Floating Holiday - my choice

The floating holiday took the place of Good Friday. Now, nobody's feelings get hurt. If you want Good Friday off, take it. You prefer Kwanzaa ... good for you. If Talk Like a Pirate Day is your cup of tea ... no problem.

Seems to me Tyson management could have solved the problem without caving in like they did.

I bet all the Liberal Free Trade Globalists are happy with this development. I am sure they will have some strange rationalization for it...”How its good for America not to hire Americans...we must diversify....blah blah blah”

Well, let Tyson figure out how they are going to give off for a holiday no one seems to agree on when the holiday actually is. Tyson will pee more money away trying to figure that out

Ah the joys of Liberal Free Trade Globalism....

I have always purchased Tyson chicken products, but no more. If Tyson isn’t careful (and, apparently, they aren’t!) they will soon be the sole American packager of halal chicken!

How is labor day a communist holiday? I’ve never understood it as such. Labor Day to me seemed to celebrate the worker. We have the most productive workforce in the world. Shouldn’t that be celebrated?

I don’t see what the big deal is. The union is supposed to represent the workers. Management negotiates with the union.

A floating holiday could accomodate everyone a little better, but the nature of the work might make that impractical.

Boycotting Tyson Foods alone won't work. You need to mail/call the Grocery Retailers and tell them as long as they stock Tyson Food you won't be shopping their stores. Be sure to tell them why.
Hit them ALL in their wallets.

Why should they? THey are a business not your uncle sugar? They pay people to work, not to not work.

What it shows is that they are kow-towing to muslim demands for being off on their holy days. They can do it if they want to, but it’s going to turn a bunch of people (ie customers) off by doing it. Because it’s a bigger issue than just having a muslim holy day off. It is another small incremental step towards increasing islam’s power in this country.

And Tyson gave them this little step when it didn’t have to. That’s why I’m done with them. Not because they have the right to do what they want, but because they did what they want and made the wrong decision, in the big picture view of things.

[We have been boycotting Tyson for years already.]

A Tyson employee manageed to get a job at a competitor in Nebraska. They purposely introduced salmonella into the hamburger and caused the company to lose so much money, they had to either go bankrupt or sell.

They sold.

Guess who bought them?

CORRECT, YOU WIN THE KEWPIE DOLL!

IT WAS TYSON!

Most of these unions where illegal aliens are employed (like Tyson) pretty much could care less for America. Note that a number of unions support illegal alien amnesty

Of course, Tyson uses a lot of non-union labor....so this really isnt much of a union issue.

Also, I am surprised so many Muslims work for Tyson...especially the extreme fundamentalist variety. Sounds like Tyson is just another one of those companies that is just Liberal Globalist

I just don't get this. When I worked in radio $%#%%% years ago, I worked Labor day, Channukah, Christmas, New Years, Good Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and my birthday. If it was a government run deal I would get all the boycott business stuff. But, if Tyson wants to hire cheap labor and they all want "cinco de platipuss" day off- big deal. Tyson management probably offered them a trade for the day they get off and they took it. I find it HILARIOUS that a bunch of union hacks would trade labor day for their chosen day off.

Until the government can tell non-government businesses what days to work or not, it is up to the consumer to decide whethter they want to support such a business.

Our Labor Day observance, like observances in other countries on May 1, originates in the Socialist Labor movement. The September date was chosen to finesse the connection.

We have the most productive workforce in the world. Shouldn’t that be celebrated?

I think celebrating it by paying them more would be nice - those that truly are most productive, on an individual rather than class basis. It's interesting (although not entirely relevant to the question at hand) that most Federal holidays are observed only by government organizations and banks, which happen to be some of our *least* productive entities.

If conservatives don’t have children, the enemy wins by attrition. I’m bringing my kids up to be American heroes. If this country goes down the skids, it won’t be my fault. My 17-year-old daughter is wondering if she should enlist in the Air Force next year, instead of pursuing an ROTC scholarship, because “The war might be over before I get there!” (I offered a survey of recent conflict, and she agreed that there will be a war *somewhere* when she graduates college :-).

It’s not the world so much as certain people in the world, and whether you are able to bring them up enough without their negative influences corrupting them before they can defend themselves from them and still keep trusting you as their parents.

An obscured (sept instead of may) socialist holiday or a muslim holiday.

I guess I’d keep labor day. Communists aren’t nearly as fanatical as radical islam. Not too many willing to stay socialist/communist even to the point of death.

Ideally I’d ban both and celebrate Washington’s birthday again.

Best of all give both our greatest presidents before Reagan, Lincoln and Washington, a separate holiday in Feb.

As for Labor Day, I'm all for it with the thought that all labor is honorable whether it's on an assembly line or in an office. It's too European and un-American for manual laborers to overly distrust those who work with their minds or in management. Honest work is just as noble whether it be in an office or a factory floor. And in th opposite direction, it is just as distasteful to look down on those who engage in manual labor. An honest worker at McDonald's is of more value to society than a crook in an exalted job.
