How is labor day a communist holiday? I’ve never understood it as such. Labor Day to me seemed to celebrate the worker. We have the most productive workforce in the world. Shouldn’t that be celebrated?

Our Labor Day observance, like observances in other countries on May 1, originates in the Socialist Labor movement. The September date was chosen to finesse the connection.

I think celebrating it by paying them more would be nice - those that truly are most productive, on an individual rather than class basis. It's interesting (although not entirely relevant to the question at hand) that most Federal holidays are observed only by government organizations and banks, which happen to be some of our *least* productive entities.
