Home Invasion Robbery Takes Deadly Turn(for the Bad Guys)
KCBS Channel 2 ^ | August 1, 2008

There are some conflicting versions of this story. One story has the homeowner shooting and killing one of the bad guys. In another story, reporters said that it was one of the two sons who shot the bad guy who was found dead holding a gun in his hand.

Either way, the bad guys got the message.

One of the bad guys still has not been apprehended by police.

Home Invasion Robbery Takes Deadly Turn

WOODLAND HILLS

A Woodland Hills homeowner shot and killed one of three suspects who burst into his home Friday afternoon in an apparent attempted home invasion robbery, police said.

The shootout between the resident and the suspects occurred in the 24000 block of Burbank Boulevard about 2:45 p.m., said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

Tim Lynn, reporting for KCAL 9 overhead in Sky 9, said one suspect was taken into custody and that another was on the lam.

The homeowner reportedly shot the one suspect when he and the two others tried to kick down the front door of the single-family home.

The suspect died at the scene.

A couple in their 60s and their two sons, both in their 20s, reportedly live in the home. Police said one of the sons fired the fatal shot.

It is unclear if the suspects knew the homeowners or why their home was targeted.

No one who lived in the home was injured during the invasion.

The family is being interviewed reportedly at the West Valley Division station of the LAPD.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the hill, exists one or more serial home invasion robbers who are targeting the most vulnerable in our Society, Senior Citizen women.

Today in broad daylight, a bad guy attacked a 96 year old woman in the woman's own back yard around 4:00 P.M.

Police are investigating the latest in a series of home invasion robberies that have targeted elderly women in the West Los Angeles area and left many residents nervous.

The most recent crime occurred Tuesday about 4 p.m., when a 96-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man near her home in the 2500 block of Westwood Boulevard, police said.

The assailant overpowered the victim and forced her into her residence, which he ransacked before fleeing with the woman's property, police said. The woman was treated for contusions at a local hospital and released the same day.

The attack was the 12th such home invasion robbery in the West Los Angeles area since late May, but it was the first to take place in the afternoon, police said. The other assaults have all occurred in the early morning.

"It hurts me that this man continues to prey on some of the most helpless people in our society," said Deputy Chief Terry Hara, commanding officer of the LAPD's West Bureau. "We're putting additional resources on this case."

The series of attacks has worried residents of the normally quiet area. Some are closely following the news, updating security systems and locking windows at night.

Brandon Behrstock, 42, says he was already focused on security before the attacks, having installed bars in some windows of his house...

Everytime I hear of a “home invasion” on the Westside and up north in places like Woodland, the phrase “Wonderland Murders” comes to mind. Sure this guy wasn’t a friend of Ed Nasrallah, er, Nash?

True. Now all we have to do is train some of the Senior Citizen women how to shoot and then supply them with appropriate armament.

I'm not sure of a solution for car to car shootings.

"and that another was on the lam."

Must be an old injury he got from a past home evasion.

Or it is a code word saying he was hit.

Sure, "on the lam" means making foot bail. ;-)

On the Lam

"On the lam" or "on the run" often refers to fugitives. "Lam" means "thrash" or "beat soundly," from the Icelandic, "lemja". The imagery is that one beats the path with one's feet while fleeing quickly.

Mencken's The American Language and The Thesaurus of American Slang proclaim that lam, lammister, and "on the lam" — all referring to a hasty departure — were common in thieves' slang before the turn of the Twentieth Century. Mencken quotes a newspaper report on the origin of 'lam' which actually traces it indirectly back to Shakespeare's time.

“ Its origin should be obvious to anyone who runs over several colloquial phrases for leavetaking, such as 'beat it' and 'hit the trail'. The allusion in 'lam' is to 'beat,' and 'beat it' is Old English, meaning 'to leave.'

During the period of George Ade's 'Fables in Slang' (1900), cabaret society delight in talking slang, and 'lam' was current. Like many other terms, it went under in the flood of new usages of those days, but was preserved in criminal slang. A quarter of a century later it reappeared. ”

The Sage of Baltimore also quotes a story from the New York Herald Tribune in 1938 which reported that "one of the oldest police officers in New York said that he had heard "on the lam" thirty years ago."

On the lam.

Woodland Hills is in the West San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles. Today's daylight home invasion robbery occurred in a residential upper middle class area.

There is no official word yet on the identity of the perps but it's likely they had some connection to local gangs in the San Fernando area, which include MS13, Crips, Bloods, many different Mexican gangs, and several other Nationalities' organized crime gangs.

The attack and home invasion robbery of the 96 year old woman took place in West L.A. a little South of U.C.L.A. in a fairly nice middle class residential area.

The purported bad guy in this case has been acting alone and according to police reports, is considered to be a serial felon.

of course there NEVER is a physical description of the perp, cause doncha know that it might cast a group of the protected democrat classes in bad light.

I love it when they "ask for the public's assistance" in apprehending suspects but dog gone it...they don't describe the color of skin, hair length or anything else.

"Although the victims primarily have been elderly women, there is no indication of a specific pattern to the man's actions, he said."

This fact apparently is just an aside. The next victim could well be a young, military aged male with a high and tight. Notice that they also fail to describe the attacker though, if he was a 7' tall White guy with shoulder length red hair, speaking with a Galway accent, I think they may have included that.
