TO HOLLYWOOD it smacked of desperation.
That's why the reaction to a new John McCain ad attempting to portray Barack Obama as a kind of mindless celebrity -- likening him to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears -- drew collective yawns and shrugs of irritation from politically active members of the entertainment industry.
"I didn't think McCain could look silly," mused Norman Lear. "But that ad diminishes him and makes him look silly."
Just for a start, industry types say the ad is wrong: In the Hollywood lexicon, Obama is not a celebrity. He's a rock star. (Note to McCain strategists: That's the difference between Jessica Simpson and Bono.)

He is being carried by the media and the press. He is a teleprompt reading talent. Nothing more. He stumbles, mumbles and gaffes all the time when not reading one of his content-free prepared speeches. As for law school... judging from the lawyers and activist they crank out, too many folks there are either idiots or evil. Sure it takes some brains for pursuing law, but it says nothing about the social, moral and polticical maturity. Obama is an arrogant affirmative action case that has nothing of relevance to show off.
Anything that makes a liberal twitch is OK by me.

I wasn’t defending him. I just said he doesn’t come across as an airhead. If I said the Germans in WW2 weren’t stupid, would I be defending them?
