John McCain ad irritates many in Hollywood (as if the Drama Queens in Hollywood matter)

TO HOLLYWOOD it smacked of desperation.
That's why the reaction to a new John McCain ad attempting to portray Barack Obama as a kind of mindless celebrity -- likening him to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears -- drew collective yawns and shrugs of irritation from politically active members of the entertainment industry.
"I didn't think McCain could look silly," mused Norman Lear. "But that ad diminishes him and makes him look silly."
Just for a start, industry types say the ad is wrong: In the Hollywood lexicon, Obama is not a celebrity. He's a rock star. (Note to McCain strategists: That's the difference between Jessica Simpson and Bono.)

Most Hollywood actors are narcissistic dunces who read scripts.
Obama is a narcissistic dunce who reads scripts. And is pretty darned good at it!
Of course, they love Obama and hate McCain. McCain is a terrible actor!
So, its all about shallowness and acting skills.

Obama is not a celebrity. He's a rock star. Who should play the guitar with his brain in a jar.

A soundtrack CD with songs dedicated to Obama is in the works (think of all that musical hope available for download to your iPod.) A black and white ball is planned for Aug. 21 in Beverly Hills where celebrities are being invited to celebrate Obama's candidacy. Will Ludacrisp be on the hopey dopey soundtrack?
Ooooooo...an Ebony and Ivory ball!! Ooooooo,...special..

This ad is perfect because it uses the over the top politically correct hype against odumbo I think they've gone into a tizzy also because it takes a poke at two of the biggest celebrity dingbats who ever came down the pike.
To the hollywood crowd, that's tuggin' on Superman's cape.

I watched Obama on Meet the Press last week. Whatever else could be said about him, he didn’t come across as vacuous. Hard to see how that commercial will fly.

Just for a start, industry types say the ad is wrong: In the Hollywood lexicon, Obama is not a celebrity. He's a rock star. Maybe they should make another commercial with a rock star, like they could use Brittney Spears. Oh wait, Brittney Spears IS a musical star. Those hollywood people are really stupid, aren't they. Britney was a singer, not an actress.

The MSM doesn't even try to hide their fawning over Obama.
Andrea Mitchell was almost crying when McCain's campaign spokesperson merely questioned Obama’s excuse for not seeing the troops in Germany. She went as far as to “vouch” that it wasn't for a photo op but today we find out different. Then we have Chrissy Matthews who gets tingles up the leg at the mention of Obama.

Britney is a POP star. Steven Tyler is a ROCK star. It’s a subtle but important difference.
Longevity plays a part, too. Aerosmith has been around for 30-odd years and is still popular, but 30 years from now Britney will be a footnote in musical history.

The ad has worked to its intent. The MSM was ignoring McCain and ignoring Obama’s positions on issues but fawning all over the empty-suit Obama. This ad was designed for scrutiny but it was also designed to get the discussion rolling. Obama will have to explain how he's against expanded drilling with gas at $4 a gallon and 72% of Americans wanting it.

That is true, but I interpreted the hollywood argument as being about actors versus performers, not specifically that Obama was a specific type of music performer.
Frankly, Obama isn’t a rock star. Rock stars actually have a talent.

In the Hollywood lexicon, Obama is not a celebrity. He's a rock star. And that's where Hollywood is ignorant of how the rest of the world views them.
To the rest of the world, there is no difference between a Simpson or a Bono, an artist or an artiste, a Streisand or a Lewinsky.
They are all attention-whoring carnies.

Drives home the "Overconfidence" theme pretty nicely I think.
