Kaine for VP? Look at the fallout (Virginia Governor)
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 7/27/08 | Jeff Schapiro

Posted on 07/27/2008 5:22:40 PM PDT by Corin Stormhands

With one word -- no -- Tim Kaine could end the overwrought musings about his presumed vice-presidential ambitions. Because he hasn't, assume that he -- unlike Mark Warner and Jim Webb -- is hot to trot with Barack Obama.

Interesting take from Jeff. One of those odd columns when he didn't annoy me...too much.

Just seeing his name (any of the 3) annoys me.

Well, I still don't want Obama for President, but the thought of getting rid of Kaine a few years early has some appeal.

Bill Kristol predicted that he'd be Barry's VP and that it would be announced next Monday morning in Virginia...right before Barry hits the beach (he needs a vacation, you know).

If Kaine bolts, does our LT Gov (R) become gov?

What did Kaine do before he was governor? Sounds like he has a rather light resume too. Picking him would be a bit of a slap to Webb though, would it not? Maybe this would cause some dissent within the VA Demo party. Though unfortunately if it means VA goes Dem, that is a major pickup for the “blue” side.

One benefit though is that the lieutenant governor, who is a Republican, would become governor I assume.

Corin, I don't want to venture a guess on this question, can you answer it, please? Thanks.

Yes, Bolling would become Governor, but only if Kaine resigns (and Kaine may decide to hold onto the office until the election and hedge his bets, just in case Obama would lose). If Bolling does become Governor, it throws a monkey-wrench into the next election, since Bolling has already withdrawn any designs on the office, he might presumably prefer to remain as Governor, so Atty Gen McDonnell might have to reassess his own plans.

I went back an read the article, the lib author was horrified - he said Bill Bolling would be able to control the gerrymandering, and garauntee a republican assembly majority for the next ten years.

Hmmmm.

His biggest national exposure was a post-State-of-the-Union Democratic response. He was a marginal speaker, quite uncharismatic, and quite forgettable. He is literally milk-toast compared to Obama, which may be what they want in a VP—someone who can’t compete with the star quality of the new Messiah.

Those were all my thoughts, but I didn’t want to pose them as I am not as well versed in VA politics/statutes as others.

As me the same question in regard to Delaware and I wouldn’t bat an eye to answer. LOL!!!!!

hmmm Kaine...McCain

Maybe some of the libs will stay home thinking Kaine is McCain?

Of course how many Va’s will vote for Mark Warner thinking it is John Warner? Don’t really like either one of them and what quals Kaine or Webb as VP on a runaway train.
Pols should be forced to resign their present office while entertaining higher office. Or at least respect their constituents enough to resign.
Can you see the CEO of Ford Motor Co KEEPING his job while actively seeking the CEOship of EXXON? For 1 year?
The job they were elected to do isn’t getting done as WE all pay for them to galavant around...
Sickening...

Uh, no. No way, no how. VA may be purple, but I can’t see that flying...

You know how many virginians it takes to change a lightbulb?

50.

One to change it, and 49 to caucus about how good the old one was...

On the other hand, how is McCaine not Kaine?

Liberal running on a conservative platform he intends to ignore...check.

Kaine was the figurehead Mayor of Richmond, but he was more known for the fact that he married the daughter of the ultra-RINO liberal ex-Governor Linwood Holton. Holton, of course, helped his son-in-law.
