ANN COULTER: THIS IS NOT A DRILL (Pump & Drill Part 2)

THIS IS NOT A DRILL
July 16, 2008

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, or as she is called on the Big Dogs blog, "the worst speaker in the history of Congress," explained the cause of high oil prices back in 2006: "We have two oilmen in the White House. The logical follow-up from that is $3-a-gallon gasoline. It is no accident. It is a cause and effect. A cause and effect."

Yes, that would explain why the price of oral sex, cigars and Hustler magazine skyrocketed during the Clinton years. Also, I note that Speaker Pelosi is a hotelier ... and the price of a hotel room in New York is $1,000 a night! I think she might be onto something.

Is that why a barrel of oil costs mere pennies in all those other countries in the world that are not run by "oilmen"? Wait -- it doesn't cost pennies to them? That's weird.

In response to the 2003 blackout throughout the Northeast U.S. and parts of Canada, Pelosi blamed: "President Bush and Rep. Tom DeLay's oil-company interests." The blackout was a failure of humans operating electric power; it had nothing to do with oil. And I'm not even "an oilman."

But yes -- good point: What a disaster having people in government who haven't spent their entire lives in politics! That explains everything. A government official with relevant experience or knowledge about an issue is obviously a crisis of gargantuan proportions.

This must be why the Democrats are nominating B. Hussein Obama, who finished middle school three days ago and has less experience than a person one might choose at random from the audience of "American Idol."

If the Democrats really wanted oil companies to find more oil, they'd allow oil companies to drill offshore and to drill in ANWR, which we happen to know is bursting with oil.

But they don't. They don't want drilling. They don't want more oil. They want humans to ride bicycles and then to die. We deserve it: We were mean to the polar bears.

There is only one Polar Bear left in the world, and he is floating on a melting iceberg way up north.

He can't get to the last remaining Caribou to kill it and eat it.

A little birdie told me this, it was a spotted owl. (The last one left)

Ann's column is up, pump and drill!

How Liberals Wish Tony Snow Goodbye - L.A. Times Commenters Joyously Revel in Tony Snow’s Death

Compare that to what conservatives said when Sen. Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor on a right-wing posting site, freerepublic.com:

CBS NEWS Sen Kennedy's doctors say he has a malignant brain tumor

Lovely people, liberals . . .
Quite an interesting contrast, not withstanding the removed comments from FR posters with issues.

They keep saying that companies have permits to drill on 68 million acres. What the hell difference does it make? Give them permits to drill........where ever.......as long as they start drilling. They also say it will be about five years before we see any oil from new wells. I believe it will be less than a year.....but anyway....it will be six years if they keep putting it off.

Ann exposes Pelosi’s and the Demorats/Marxists’ lies about oil companies sitting on acres and not drilling:

“Democrats are also alleging that the oil companies are sitting on millions of acres of oil but are refusing to drill — presumably because oil company executives hate the American people and perversely don’t want to make money. Manifestly, those acres are being explored for oil or have already come up dry.

If the Democrats really wanted oil companies to find more oil, they’d allow oil companies to drill offshore and to drill in ANWR, which we happen to know is bursting with oil.

But they don’t. They don’t want drilling. They don’t want more oil. They want humans to ride bicycles and then to die. We deserve it: We were mean to the polar bears.

It’s good to know that in the middle of a crisis, the Democrats are still liars. As long as we’re fantasizing about “alternative” energy sources, what we really need is a car that runs on Democrats’ lie”

This "drill" mantra is a pet peeve of mine.

Yes, we need to explore and drill.

But there are hundreds of wells that were producing oil in the last several decades that were instantly taken out of production by politicians.

With a little work many of them can be brought into production in a matter of months, if not weeks.

The oil could flow almost instantly in massive quantities.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere.

On the liberal talking points of the millions of acres of leases that the oil people have, they have explored much of it and found that they need more areas with more potential to explore.

The liberals say on the news that if the oil people don't want to use the leases, they should turn them back into the government. There is a problem with that though. The leases are nonreturnable, the oil companies are stuck with them whether they can use them or not.

It's hard to figure out, no one is sure.

I think it is glitch in the extrinsic attenuation or maybe the chromatic dispersion is off a decibel or two.

They say it will take years to get oil from any new wells. Does that stop a brewer from aging his scotch for five years?

"As long as we're fantasizing about "alternative" energy sources, what we really need is a car that runs on Democrats' lies"

Not unlike Doug Adams "hyper-improbobilty" drive from the Hitch Hikers guide.

Also an infinite source of HOT AIR!

My husband is working on a job for Chevron to put abandoned wells back online. I think they figure they’ll be done by December. Don’t know how many wells tho.

What did President George W. Bush have to do with the oil business? I thought he owned a baseball team and later was governor of Texas.

That's good news, thanks.

There are several kinds of “abandoned” wells.

1) Those that are abandoned because the expense of extracting the oil is not cost effective.

2) Those that were shut down because of government mandates.

With #1, many wells that were shut down because of the necessity of doing expensive servicing to get the production up. It is highly cost effective now what with the high price of oil per bbl.

With #2, it should be an easier task because the locations just need to be brought up to speed (because of the lack of maintenance for years) and they can produce very soon. Signal Hill---in Southern California---was shut down many years ago, and much less than half of the oil has been pumped.

Good news, thanks.
