“You’ve got to expect such mild, poignant commentary at a Conservative news discussion forum.”

I would like to think we conservatives actually possess brains and a sense of reality. Or we should.

And I would like to think that people who call themselves Conservative would know enough of basic courtesies and decency to understand that suggesting that others with whom you are conversing don't "actually possess brains " is not regarded as a congenial form of social interaction, and is the sort of statement that is not likely to gain friendship opportunities among thoughtful people.

And, by the way, you started this thread merely with the article posting and a statement of your thoughts on the matter, not the 'request for help' that you did in later posts.  If you had begun this thread with a sincere request for advice and assistance then that is precisely what you would have received from this forum, and we would not be having this particular discussion.

There’s a new state regulation that kids have to actually take PE and other activities will not count.

That makes sense to me.

Er, what do you say to someone who claims with absurd assurance that the kids I know are illegal aliens ?

Or people who want to seal me off with razor wire ?

You have to admit there are more than a few out-there cranks in this mix.

...the reason why we haven’t surrounded San Francisco and Berkeley with 20 FT tall razor wire fencing and re-designated it as ‘hostile enemy territory’ is what, exactly?

...the precedent(s) of Sodom and Gomorrah???

An excellent analogy.

And besides, electric fences like you'd keep in your yard to train your dog are more entertaining anyway.

Agreed, and what a magnificent mental image this creates!  I fear, however, that the prospect of wearing dog collars that occasionally produce a mild electric shock would be an absolute delight for a significant percentage of San Franciscans, and so would most likely not produce the desired result....

There is little room for non-academic electives in SF, in the challenging (mainly Asian) schools where JROTC is strong.

What does JROTC achieve ? Consider this - these JROTC kids (in SF) are disproportionately academically top-notch. They really are that cliche, the leaders of the future. Aren’t we all going to be better off that they went through the JROTC experience, as a countermeasure to the anti-American brainwashing they get all through the rest of their academic experience ? It does seem that way to me. These kids WANT the opportunity to feel American.

buwaya,

I apologize - I didn't understand you were referring only to kids already enrolled in JROTC.

My somewhat sarcastic point was this.....

Pew Research, a center-left pro-immigration endowment, estimates that one third of the students in SF and LA are not US citizens.

And, SF votes about 75% Democratic and is probably the most anti-military city in the country.

Thus, the SF school system did not strike me as fertile ground for America's future military leaders.

Why razor wire? Surround it with an army and take it back! Give the wackos and seditionists five days to to leave the country and then sterilize the streets with Clorox.

An excellent plan.  Perhaps loading the loons onto container ships and sending them to North Korea might be a plan?  They would probably be delighted to go....until they found out that their Socialist Utopia is not quite what they thought it might be.....

If students really love the program, they’ll take it anyway

I tend to agree with this statement. Since when does extracurricular activities count as credit for graduation. PE is separate from JROTC. Yes I have 21 years in the military and support JROTC, but still find PE a separate class from JROTC.

Almost all of SF’s high school students are illegal aliens who can’t qualify as officers anyway.

lol. I must say that is the dumbest statement I have heard in awhile on FR.

This needs to be an election issue.

McCain just might agree.

Problem is the marxist crypto -muslim would probably come out against this as well (with his fingers crossed).

Er, what do you say to someone who claims with absurd assurance that the kids I know are illegal aliens ?

I would have instantly recognized that the person making the post was of course engaging in witty hyperbole, and of course was not referring to the very few kids that YOU know.

Or people who want to seal me off with razor wire ?

Again, I would have instantly understood that it was not YOU, PERSONALLY who was being referred to, but the loons that give San Francisco it's well-deserved international reputation as one of the primary loon capitals of the planet.  If you live in a place, you need to understand that people are going to refer to a place by it's reputation, and that isn't saying that ALL people there are deserving of that reputation....but the majority are.

Just as when people refer to the Leftist hellhole where I live as a Leftist hellhole, I know that they aren't referring to me but to the sad state of the city I'm forced to live in.

You have to admit there are more than a few out-there cranks in this mix.

More gracious congeniality from you...how nice.

Hmmmm...well you could raise the voltage a bit. It also gives us yet another great excuse to build nuclear plants and drill/explore for oil out on the Farrallon Islands, so really it's a win/win for everybody!

1/3 Alien is not 1/3 ILLEGAL Alien.

And its 1/3. What are the 2/3 ?

SF, like LA, is full of immigrants, the majority of whom are legal. Their kids are legal, and almost all born in the USA.

Illegal aliens are also very unlikely to be kids in school.

Of course SF is anti-military, though I wouldn’t put it at a majority of the residents. The voters of SF are much more leftist than the actual population, and certainly more than publi school parents, because in this town very few vote, maybe 1/3 usually. Thats partly because there are so many non-voting aliens, and also because the Asians don’t like to vote even if they are citizens.(culture, don’t make waves, “the mandate of heaven”, etc.)

Those anti-military ^%(^$# are trying to steamroller the rest on this issue.

Raising the voltage changes the equation entirely, and I applaud your engineering perspective.  I think that you've hit upon an excellent plan   :-)

My bet is that the JROTC kids are in better physical shape (and more knowledgeable about the U.S. Constitution and American History and with higher sense of moral absolutes) than the **average** kid outside that program.

This is about hating the military and USA, emphatically not about childrens’ health. JROTC is an outstanding military prep track and that’s why it’s under fire.

Watch for California Cadet Corps, a similar program, to face the same bigotry.

naps quotes zee: “Almost all of SF’s high school students are illegal aliens who can’t qualify as officers anyway." --- lol. I must say that is the dumbest statement I have heard in awhile on FR.”

It was sarcasm, naps.

Military officers must be USA citizens, and a substantial portion of SF’s students are not citizens, one third according to Pew Research.

Mix in the fact that SF is the most anti-military city in America, and the only “LOL” I see is that taking JROTC out of SF is somehow consequential.

“a substantial portion of SF’s students are not citizens, one third according to Pew Research.”

a. 1/3 is a minority. 2/3 > 1/3 .

b. You confuse “alien” with “illegal alien”. Legal immigrants are going to be naturalized or naturalizable, guaranteed, one way or another. If they aren’t citizens now doesn’t mean that they won’t be when they reach their majorities, which is when they would be counted, if their parents (lots of them) are resident aliens. That is in fact typical of Asians. The proportion of citizens upon majority, natural born or naturalized, out of this pool, will be nearly 100%.

c. We are discussing an injustice vs a minority of the SF population, those who VOLUNTEERED for JROTC, in this anti-military city.

It did surprise us when they actually went and did the first vote in 2006 (I.e., just the usual posturing), but then it looked like they were going to let it slide as a never-ending “phase-out”.

But now ? It looks like they want a fight. And the legal strategy/wedge they are using seems like a rehearsal for something they will try across California. That really would hurt JROTC.
