Mark Steyn and FreeDominion
SteynOnline ^ | 06.10.08 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 06/15/2008 2:21:15 PM PDT by Chickensoup

A note to our readers Tuesday, 10 June 2008 Now that the first show trial is behind us, SteynOnline is going on hiatus for a while. I have to do some far-flung traveling in connection with a forthcoming project that would have been coming forth a whole lot sooner were it not for these thought-police investigations.

Thanks to everyone who's swung by these parts to read a column, enter a competition, buy a book or drop a missive to Mark's Mailbox, and in so doing helped make this last year our most successful yet. I'm especially grateful to all those who chose to express their support by buying America Alone and much else during last week's farce in Vancouver. We don't have a legal defense fund and, to be honest, I far prefer it, if you want to chip in, that you get a book or a T-shirt or a mug in return. That way we all win.

However, if you are anxious to help the cause, a good way to do so is to donate to the Freedom Five - the handful of bloggers targeted by Richard Warman, the man who embodies what's gone wrong with Canadian "human rights". Please feel free to toss a buck or two the way of Ezra, Kate, Kathy, and Connie and Mark at Free Dominion. They could use some help.

In the meantime, check the Binkmeister at Free Mark Steyn! for daily updates on the campaign to restore free speech to Canada. And check in with my pals at The Corner for all the fun, frivolity and sheer despair of Campaign 2008.

See you soon,

Mark

Mark is going on hiatus. He states that FreeDominion is under attack and needs some support. They have always been friends of us at FR. I dont exactly know what is happening to them but I suppose it is similar to Steyn's fight.

Couldnt find anything on either topic in searches, but I am willing to be wrong

Briefly, what was the result of the show trial.....who were the defendant(s) and the plaintiff(s)?

I think others may want to know, also.....given Mark Steyn is a favorite here. Thanks.

Couldn't find anything on either topic in searches...

I've been live-covering our sister sites travails from the start- updates daily at the "last" here:

-A lawsuit has been served against our Canadian "sister" site, Free Dominion.--

I also have everything I can find on Steyn, Levant, et al, for it is all interrelated.

Hi, Backhoe....it's too much to read that whole thread. Do you know the verdict and who lost and who won?

Ezra Levant’s website is a must read...he’s hilarious and gutsy.

No verdict. The kangaroo’s are out ruminating on a verdict. Steyn hopes they vote to convict so he can appeal it to a REAL court.

This situation makes me wonder how soon it will be before FR is just as equally attacked, and how soon will it be before the Fairness Doctrine is fully enacted throughout the U.S.? Bad times are truly coming soon to the U.S. for only God knows how long.

Leni, the Macleans and Steyn case has not had a verdict announced yet- the closest thing to a summary of it, and the other cases is here:

Stillman puts it in a 26 oz. bottle.

What I haven’t seen in reading about this is why Mark Steyn went to the proceedings. Was he subpoenaed and if so under what authority does a Canadian court subpoena a U.S. citizen?

> why Mark Steyn went to the proceedings

I cannot say for certain, but I remember he said that he wanted to lose, because then the appeal would have to go before a real court, not the charade of a "human rights" commission.

Stein is a Canadian citizen.

I was certain that he is an American since his home is in New Hampshire.
