Incredible experience. Good job, Japanese earthquake predictive technology and national TV networks.
Knowing it is coming perhaps makes the feelings more intense, with the sentiment of anticipation setting in.

They have been testing this system in California... basically because the sensors can alert a network faster than the waves move through the earth.... I am glad to see it work in Japan......In CA it will probably never work, due to different entities involved.

Felt it here, about 30 mi SW of Tokyo. Didn’t pay it much mind - figured it was one of the usual 5.0 +/- just off the coast. Yikes.

Even without prediction a lot could be done. The “Ash Wednesday” earthquake here probably took a minute or more to reach us. With a net of sensors and some means to immediately notify the populace around the region, lives could be saved.

An interesting poster on
HTTP://WWW.ABOVETOPSECRET.COM
posted an assertion a week or two ago that one of his friends who he claims has
100% accuracy
has predicted a 9.5 quake off the coast of China for the middle of June plus or minus a couple of weeks—so any time in June.
We shall see. Also predicted with it was a 50 meter Tsunami wave going far inland. Might be a good time to stay at upper elevations.
All the more so if this quake somehow reverberates, cocks things up a bit more.
Please be safe, buddy.

AP now reporting 2 deaths and one serious injury:
TOKYO - Japan's government says two people have died and eight others have been injured in an earthquake in the northern part of the country.Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura said at least two died in Saturday's 7-magnitude quake, including one person who ran out of a building in panic and was hit by a truck.
He says one of the eight injured was in serious condition.

What kind of place were you in when the quake struck? Did its roaches (every building and house in the country has them) swarm just before it started?
I had this happen once while at work (by myself, on a weekend) In the Mori #17 Building in Tokyo.
