The UN Human Rights Council said the UK must "consider holding a referendum on the desirability or otherwise of a written constitution, preferably republican".
The council has 29 members including Saudi Arabia, Cuba and Sri Lanka.
It was the Sri Lankan envoy who raised concerns over the British monarchy.
The resulting report said Britain should have a referendum on the monarchy and the need for a written constitution with a bill of rights.

Nice to see the UN meddling in some other government for a change, instead of ours.
“Syrian representatives accused the UK of discriminating against Muslims and Iran complained about the UK’s record on tackling sexual discrimination. “
Wow. Just wow. The sheer magnitude of hypocrisy here is staggering. Seriously, we need to do away with that crap. All it is is a forum for these hypocrites to bash on the western world, and we pay for it. Good lord. What an absolute travesty.
What the heck business is it of theirs? Does the UN Charter no longer recognize the sovereignty of nations?
I don’t understand why Britain holds onto the Royal Twits, but the decision to get rid of them is no more my business than the UN’s. I really do wish we’d bolt from the UN and serve them with an eviction notice.
Um word to UN, the Monarchy is kind of a figure head. Why don’t you work on the 54% of your members that are not democracies?
Maybe Britain could consider it just as soon as the UN General Secretary stops treating the UN as a monarchy.
“I dont understand why Britain holds onto the Royal Twits”
Funny....for some unknown reason..(pride ? heritage?) the Brits like their Royals... and this is their right, which support.
The UN Human Rights Council is about as useful and relevant as the Nobel Peace Prize committee. Only the intellectually challenged take it seriously. But as the Brits would say “ It’s good for a laugh”
SOD OFF, YOU BLOODY WANKERS. Yobs the lot of y’uh.
Perhaps Britain should get rid of the UN.
The Monarchy has proved itself to be more durable, more useful, more mindful of human rights and infinitely more amusing than that crackerbox full of frauds over on Turtle Bay.
Give Turtle Bay back to the turtles!
Even Geroge III, in the darkest days of the American Revolution, was a vastly more humane and civilized ruler than those UN subhumans are today.
This must be Scrappleface.
The U.N. Human Rights Commission is in denial about the abuses of human dignity by dictators around the World, while it recommends getting rid of the British monarchy. Yeah, that’s the ticket. This organization has become a parody of itself.
Saudi Arabia has a Bill of Rights? Who knew?
Kalee rolls eyes
The Islamic “Republics” recommended stoning by backing up a dump truck full of boulders and then pulling the lever.
Seems like their humane ways of executing adulterers on Friday afternoons after prayer in the mosque doesn’t get much press these days.
Inarguable proof that the UN should be put down like a terminally ill, mangy old dog. Without the monarchy, England will have almost NOTHING of interest any more.
um...what form of rule does Saudi Arabia have? A type of monarchy no?
“Britain should get rid of the monarchy, says UN”
This is only the first step. The next one will be to suggest that the UK should accept the UN as its head of government.
After that, it will be demanded that the US Congress be replaced by a UN agency thereby establishing the blessings of internationalism and globalism. All non-Muslim and non-communist nations will comply.
Lights out.
So some Brits are still pissed we kicked their ass. And some of the snooty eleats indignant we don’t suck up to their Global Warming standards that they don’t even apply. And lately I hear they are not all hepped up on joining the EU and eliminating the pound.
Hey you snooty girly men, see where your arrogance and ignorance is getting you?
Join the rabble, Join us in riding the world of the UN forever.
