The UN Human Rights Council said the UK must "consider holding a referendum on the desirability or otherwise of a written constitution, preferably republican".
The council has 29 members including Saudi Arabia, Cuba and Sri Lanka.
It was the Sri Lankan envoy who raised concerns over the British monarchy.
The resulting report said Britain should have a referendum on the monarchy and the need for a written constitution with a bill of rights.

The UK should tell the UN "Human Rights" council to take a hike. What does the council which includes China, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Cuba have any business telling the UK how to organize its government.

I am loathe to remind the U.N. that the British have the grandaddy of ALL bills of rights - Magna Carta.

Really, maybe it’s time for the U.S, Britain, Australia and New Zealand to leave the U.N., kick them out of New York and back to the Hague. We could leave a note:
“You’re on your own.”

If you listen carefully, you can hear a chorus of voices shouting, muttering, snarling a right proper: “Oh, f*ck off” from the British side of the pond.

I am loathe to remind the U.N. that the British have the grandaddy of ALL bills of rights - Magna Carta. Never confuse a real right with a UN "right".
Why didn't they say the same thing to a real monarchy like Saudi Arabia instead of a country where the monarchy is little more than a tourist trap?

The UN has no right to tell any country how it should be governed.
They have a despiciable record in Africa, where the king of the day is whomever....
This country has endured for hundreds of years with their system, and it works.
Maybe that is what is really bothering the UN.
The UN just cannot stand any country that can keep a decent system of government for any long time.
The UN needs to be let drift for itself by the US, Britain, Australia, and other sucessful countries.

Heh! Now that would be a good show.
Seems like the U.N. exists merely to force us all to listen to people who would otherwise be wisely ignored.
You wanna tell Britain what to do? March in, take over, and have at it. Until then, pound sand.
